24M Technologies has introduced a groundbreaking battery electrolyte named **Eternalyte**, designed to enable faster charging and enhanced performance in cold temperatures. This innovation addresses some of the most significant challenges currently faced by lithium-ion batteries, particularly in electric vehicle (EV) applications.
Eternalyte boasts up to three times the ionic conductivity of standard electrolytes, allowing ions to flow more swiftly between the battery’s anode and cathode. According to 24M, this increased conductivity results in charge rates that are four times higher than those of traditional electrolytes. The technology is capable of delivering over **300 km** of additional range in under four minutes, charging from **15%** to **80% capacity** without the need for megawatt charging infrastructure.
Another major advantage of Eternalyte is its performance in cold weather. While conventional batteries typically experience a **25%** capacity loss at **0°C** and nearly complete failure at much lower temperatures, Eternalyte maintains nearly full capacity at **0°C** and retains over **80%** capacity at **-40°C**. This development addresses a critical limitation for current EVs operating in winter conditions and cold climates.
“24M’s Eternalyte electrolyte breakthrough solves some of the biggest challenges of lithium-ion batteries today,” stated **Naoki Ota**, President and CEO of 24M Technologies. “With rapid charging, exceptional low-temperature performance, and impressive cycle life in lithium-metal and other high energy density chemistries, Eternalyte offers outstanding performance for applications ranging from EVs to consumer products. It lays the groundwork for next-generation batteries, including lithium metal, which could achieve a **1,600-kilometer** driving range and years of reliable performance.”
Originally designed for lithium metal batteries, Eternalyte is also compatible with silicon and graphite-based batteries. 24M notes that the technology can be seamlessly integrated into existing manufacturing processes. When paired with the company’s **Impervio** separator, it can also enhance safety and longevity.
