34.85%! A new world record has been set for the efficiency of tandem solar cells incorporating crystalline silicon and perovskite technology. Reports indicate that Longi Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd. has achieved a significant breakthrough in photovoltaic cell technology. Certified by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), their self-developed crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem solar cells have reached a conversion efficiency of 34.85%, once again breaking the global record for this technology.
As a leading direction for next-generation ultra-efficient solar cells, crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem cells have a theoretical maximum efficiency of 43%. This achievement marks a critical step forward in the industrialization process. The Longi Green Energy tandem cell team has made rapid progress, achieving significant efficiency improvements in less than a year—breaking through 33.9% for the first time in November 2023, followed by an increase to 34.6% in June 2024. The latest achievement further solidifies their technological leadership.
In addition, Longi Green Energy has announced at its Wuhu base in Anhui that its hybrid back-contact crystalline silicon solar cells (HIBC) have been certified by the Institute for Solar Energy Research Hamelin (ISFH), achieving a conversion efficiency of 27.81%, setting a new record for monocrystalline silicon photovoltaic cell efficiency. These two breakthroughs represent the pinnacle of future tandem technology and existing crystalline silicon technology, highlighting Longi Green Energy's ongoing innovation capabilities in the photovoltaic sector.
