Rho Motion has reported a record addition of 13.6 GWh in global battery energy storage systems (BESS) for January 2025. This data comes from their “Battery Energy Storage Monthly Assessment,” which tracked a total of 81 new battery projects worldwide during the month. The London-based analyst, part of Benchmark Mineral Intelligence, highlighted that approximately two-thirds of the new BESS capacity was deployed in China.
Among the notable projects in China, a significant 1.2 GWh installation was completed in Hubei province. Additionally, the only three non-lithium-ion energy storage systems activated in January were vanadium flow batteries, collectively boasting a storage capacity of 90 MWh.
