Jingzhong Technology has announced that starting in 2027, the company will begin using the North American Charging Standard (NACS) for electric vehicles in Japanese markets. This transition will align with the adoption of NACS as the primary charging standard for electric vehicles (EVs) in Japan. The shift means that users will have access to a wider range of charging options.
Jingzhong Technology plans to implement NACS charging stations that meet the necessary compatibility standards. In addition, the company aims to utilize NACS-compatible Supercharger stations for rapid charging across Japan’s network. These developments were announced on May 9, 2025, in conjunction with an agreement with Tesla.
As of January 2025, Japan is expected to have 125 locations equipped with over 638 ultra-fast charging stations. If compatible devices are used, NACS will be available for external charging applications. In the Japanese EV market, the adoption of NACS aims to enhance user experience significantly.
Furthermore, Sony Honda Mobility is set to introduce its first EV under the AFEELA brand, which will support NACS by 2026, marking a major step in the integration of EV charging technology in Japan.
Overall, the use of NACS in Japan is expected to grow significantly, with major automotive manufacturers planning to adopt this standard, further expanding the EV market.
