Chengdu Energy Technology has announced that it will implement fast charging technology for electric vehicle batteries, which is expected to reduce charging time to as little as 15 minutes. This advancement was disclosed on May 16, 2025, at 13:39 by the company.
This technology will enable electric vehicles to reach an 80% charge within 5 minutes once it is operational. Following that, charging from 80% to 100% will take an additional 5 minutes, resulting in a total charging time of approximately 10 minutes to achieve full battery capacity.
For comparison, current mainstream 4C fast charging systems allow for a charging duration of 15 minutes after reaching the 80% mark, which is significantly faster than the existing average of 19 minutes for traditional systems. This improvement is expected to attract more users transitioning from gasoline vehicles to electric ones.
The fast charging technology is built upon the foundation of a newly developed battery system that integrates advanced materials and design features. This includes a liquid cooling system and various innovative methods that have already achieved a 6C power density with an energy density of 185Wh/kg.
In terms of battery lifespan, the new fast charging battery is projected to endure over 5000 cycles, with intelligent management systems allowing the lifespan to extend between 15 years and 60,000 kilometers of driving.
Chengdu Energy’s recent technological innovations signal a shift in the electric vehicle market, enhancing the efficiency of battery production and significantly improving the user experience for electric vehicle owners.
