BMW plans to launch its new electric vehicle, the i2, by 2030. The vehicle is expected to have a range exceeding 700 km.

On May 5, 2025, during an exhibition in Shanghai, BMW announced the upcoming i2, which is designed to be a compact and practical electric car. This model is expected to be part of BMW’s electric series and will be positioned alongside the previously launched i1.

The i2 aims to cater to the demand for compact electric vehicles, providing two versions with different configurations. BMW‘s product management head, Markus Schreiber, emphasized that the compact car remains a crucial segment for BMW.

Despite the i2’s specifications not yet being fully disclosed, it is confirmed that the vehicle will utilize BMW’s next-generation battery technology. This new battery is expected to offer improved energy density and performance compared to existing models, allowing the i2 to achieve a range of at least 700 km.

In comparison to the current F74 M235, the i2 is projected to have enhanced performance, with a maximum power output of 312 hp.
