On May 8, at the Intersolar exhibition in Munich, the Japanese comprehensive motor manufacturer Nidec unveiled its integrated AC/DC energy storage system, power conversion system (PCS), and a large storage system. The integrated AC/DC energy storage system, known as the ACBOX series, includes three models:

  • 2-hour system: 2.47MW/5.03MWh, utilizing 315Ah battery cells.
  • 4-hour system: 2.47MW/8.47MWh, utilizing 530Ah battery cells.
  • 8-hour system: 1.23MW/8.47MWh, also utilizing 530Ah battery cells.

This product line is designed for three distinct markets, offering configurability to adapt to various application needs. The systems support a voltage of 2000 V and can be equipped with optional noise reduction kits for near-silent operation. Notably, both the 4-hour and 8-hour systems with an 8.47MWh capacity are housed in a standard 30-foot container and weigh 70 tons.

Additionally, Nidec introduced a 2000V PCS. They also launched the IPS BESS X8, a large storage product with an 8.1MWh capacity, designed in a 20-foot standard container and utilizing 314Ah battery cells. This system employs a three-level, liquid-cooled PCS, achieving an efficiency of 99.5%. Nidec guarantees 12,000 cycles and promises 100% state of health (SOH) during the first five years.

The modular design simplifies transportation, installation, and scalability while reducing logistics and deployment costs. This system is delivered in segments, weighs less than 8 tons, and does not require specialized heavy lifting equipment for transportation or installation. Each module is designed for plug-and-play integration, featuring standardized mechanical and electrical interfaces to ensure quick and low-complexity on-site assembly.

All products are manufactured in Europe, with production lines located in Bulgaria, and there are plans to increase production capacity to 3GWh by the end of the year.
