New National Standards for Electric Vehicle Batteries Mandate Stricter Safety Requirements by 2025

New

The strictest new energy vehicle national standard has been announced! Beginning in 2025, a new requirement titled “Power Battery Safety Requirements for Electric Vehicles” will be implemented. This announcement was made on May 28, 2025, at 10:56 AM by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Recent communications from the Ministry highlight that the new national standard, which focuses on power batteries used in electric vehicles, aims to enhance safety measures and reduce risks associated with battery usage. Although the formal implementation of the standard will commence on July 1, 2026, manufacturers are already expected to start compliance tests and evaluations for products aligned with the new guidelines.

According to senior engineers at the New Energy Vehicle Testing Center, the newly released standards introduce stricter safety measures, particularly for high-voltage batteries, compared to the previous version. The latest standards include rigorous testing protocols for both battery performance and safety.

The new national standard specifies a total of 7 battery performance tests and 17 safety tests. In comparison to the 2020 version, these updates impose more stringent safety requirements for power batteries. For example, high-temperature resistance must now be tested under conditions that were previously not mandated, ensuring that batteries can safely operate in extreme environments.

Additionally, the evaluation criteria have been expanded to include more diverse assessment methods for vehicle performance under various conditions. This includes thorough testing of the battery’s ability to withstand harsh climates and sudden temperature changes, ensuring that electric vehicles meet heightened safety standards.

In summary, the new national standard for power batteries reflects an increased focus on safety, necessitating that manufacturers enhance their testing protocols to comply with the updated regulations. As the industry adapts to these changes, consumers can expect safer and more reliable electric vehicles in the future.
