Long Range Electric Vehicle Achieves National Standard Certification: Electric vehicles do not catch fire or explode.

On May 9, 2025, at 15:54, the CTO of Long Range Electric Vehicle announced that the company has successfully obtained the national standard certification for GB 38031-2025 “Safety Requirements for Electric Vehicle Power Batteries”. This certification aligns with the latest national standards for electric vehicles.

The Long Range Electric Vehicle has passed inspections conducted by the National Vehicle Quality Supervision and Inspection Center, demonstrating compliance with the stringent safety requirements outlined in the new national standard. This includes testing for both lithium-ion and nickel-metal hydride batteries.

According to the new standard, GB 38031-2025 will be officially implemented on July 1, 2026, following its release on March 28, 2025. The tests include the updated “Post-Accident Safety” criteria, which require that electric vehicles must not catch fire or explode under specific conditions.

In comparison to the 2020 national standard, the new standard has advanced requirements for testing the safety performance of batteries, including the charge-discharge cycle, voltage conditions, and testing conditions for the vehicles. Additionally, the thermal runaway test has been revised to specify that batteries should withstand impact without igniting or exploding.

The updated standard will also include a thorough assessment of the battery’s thermal stability under conditions such as overheating, impact, and rapid cycling.

As a result, the new standard is being recognized as the “Most Stringent National Battery Safety Standard” to date.
