New Energy Regulations! The ratio of corporate green electricity consumption has reached over 60%, and the microgrid construction has been put on the red line. The Carbon Emission Trading Network—a platform for carbon market transactions—has made significant advancements.

Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, along with other five departments, jointly issued the Green Microgrid Construction and Application Guidance (2026-2030), also known as “Guidance.” This document clarifies the fundamental principles, main capacities, construction models, application scenarios, and construction requirements for corporate green microgrids. It emphasizes accelerating the application of green energy in industrial use, promoting eco-friendly innovations, and enhancing the energy transition to a low-carbon economy.

Experts indicate that as a guiding document for the transition of industrial green energy resources, the Guidance establishes a clear path for the development of corporate green microgrids. It aims to bridge policy guidance with market practices, further promoting high-efficiency industrial energy usage, carbon reduction, and intelligent energy management.

On January 21, 2026, the Guidance will formally outline the core focus of corporate green microgrid construction, primarily targeting the provision of green electricity for industrial users. It will aggregate applications in renewable energy, wind energy, high-efficiency heat pumps, new energy storage, hydrogen energy, and other integrated systems. This will enable a seamless transition for industrial production processes to align with the electric grid, thereby achieving a harmonious integrated energy system.

With a clear focus on enhancing the efficiency of green energy consumption, the Guidance stipulates that corporate energy consumption should strive for a renewable energy ratio of not less than 60%. It emphasizes the importance of reducing emissions from fossil fuels, and the need to adopt multiple energy sources for high-efficiency energy supply.

As for the upcoming implementation, industry stakeholders should actively engage in projects that align with green microgrid development, ensuring compliance with environmental standards and energy efficiency requirements. This is essential for the successful implementation of projects aimed at reducing carbon emissions and improving overall energy efficiency.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will collaborate with relevant national departments to ensure the effective implementation of the Guidance. They will enhance regulatory frameworks and policies, providing robust support for the advancement of corporate green microgrid projects.

In summary, corporate green microgrid construction is not solely about energy supply; it represents a comprehensive energy integration system that prioritizes renewable energy, energy storage, and efficient energy supply. The Guidance serves as a crucial step in promoting a sustainable energy transition in China.
