New Energy and Multi-dimensional Development Become Key Drivers
April 17, 2025 – The new energy vehicle industry is rapidly evolving as it plays a crucial role in the development of new technologies and trends. The 2025 Automotive Industry Development Conference, themed “Accelerating New Energy and Winning the Future“, highlighted the importance of innovation and the expanding market for electric vehicles.
Data shows that in 2024, China’s vehicle production and sales are projected to reach 3,128.2 million and 3,143.6 million units, respectively, reflecting growth rates of 3.7% and 4.5%. Among these, new energy vehicle production is expected to reach 1,288.8 million and sales 1,286.6 million units, with significant increases of 34.4% and 35.5%, respectively. This means that new energy vehicles will account for 40.9% of total vehicle sales, marking a 9.3 percentage point increase from 2023.
This year, the new energy vehicle market in China is demonstrating robust growth, with data indicating that in the first quarter, the market share of new energy vehicles rose from 41.5% to 51.1%, showing an increasing acceptance among consumers.
The increasing demand for new energy vehicles is significantly driven by technological advancements. The industry is moving towards higher energy density batteries, faster charging speeds, and improved safety features. For instance, the introduction of 800V high-voltage technology is transforming electric vehicle performance, enhancing efficiency and reducing charging times.
In 2023, companies are progressively launching solid-state batteries, which are expected to boost energy density and provide a safer and more efficient energy source. For example, the first generation of solid-state batteries is planned to be used in MG4 vehicles by the end of 2025, with significant advancements projected for 2027.
Moreover, various automakers are working on expanding their production capacities for electric vehicles, notably in Shanghai, which is expected to have a substantial impact on the automotive industry.
The market is also seeing growth in hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles, which cater to diverse consumer preferences and provide alternatives to fully electric vehicles. The demand for these vehicles is expected to continue growing as they offer flexibility in energy consumption.
Overall, the new energy vehicle market in China is set to witness significant developments and innovations that will play a vital role in shaping the future of the automotive industry.
As advancements continue, the industry is focused on meeting consumer needs while driving forward the transition to sustainable transportation solutions.
