New Energy Vehicles are transforming into “Mobile Charging Stations,” marking the beginning of a new era in energy storage and supply. On April 25, 2025, the Shenzhen Electric Vehicle Network launched a pilot program for the application of a new charging model aimed at enhancing the electric vehicle charging experience. This initiative is supported by the State Grid Shenzhen Electric Power Supply Company, which has established a “charging and discharging” integrated network to facilitate the seamless connection between electric vehicles and the smart grid, effectively addressing the fluctuating demand for electricity and enhancing energy supply coordination.
The Electric Vehicle to Grid (V2G) technology is a focal point of this initiative, with plans to deploy 60kW V2G charging stations across multiple locations, totaling a capacity of 660kW. These stations will support electric vehicles in collaborating with power grids and energy storage systems to optimize electricity supply. This approach aims to realize the vision of a “three-way collaboration” among vehicles, grids, and energy providers.
Moreover, facilities capable of providing 720kW charging services have been established, featuring two main units and accommodating 24 vehicles simultaneously. The maximum charging capacity reaches up to 600kW, allowing for rapid charging within 10 minutes at 60 degrees. This development will ensure that electric vehicles can efficiently charge at night, with projections indicating that charging durations may extend up to 7 hours, with service fees set at 0.1 yuan.
During night hours, electric vehicles will have the option to connect to various power grids, enabling multiple entities to discharge electricity back into the grid, thus allowing for a balanced and efficient energy exchange.
The pilot program for the electric vehicle network aims to provide convenient access to energy storage and charging services, promoting a sustainable and green energy landscape. This initiative is expected to enhance the operational efficiency of electric vehicles, making them “mobile energy storage units,” a concept that is already being realized.
In summary, the integration of new energy vehicles as mobile charging stations signifies a significant step forward in energy management and sustainability efforts. This paradigm shift is set to reshape the interaction between electric vehicles and the energy grid in the near future.
