New Energy Storage System “Zhuo” Launches “Gold Standard”
On June 3, 2025, it was reported that the new energy storage system “Zhuo” is currently undergoing load testing for a battery discharge control experiment. The project aims to demonstrate advanced applications at the southern power grid’s energy storage station.
As a new energy industry leader, Zhuo is actively participating in the country’s transition to green energy and carbon reduction. Ensuring the safe operation of energy storage systems has become a key focus for high-quality development in this sector.
Recently, the “Zhuo” energy storage system’s lifespan application has entered the safety technology evaluation phase, which is essential for establishing safety standards for energy storage systems in light of the new energy power system regulations.
This project is led by the Southern Power Grid Energy Storage Co., in collaboration with institutions such as China University of Science and Technology, Nanjing University of Technology, and Chengdu Institute of Nuclear Technology.
The “Zhuo” energy storage system aims to enhance safety standards and implement advanced safety measures. The project also involves the establishment of a robust safety management system to mitigate risks associated with energy storage systems.
In May, at the safety evaluation laboratory of the Southern Power Grid in Nanjing, a series of 230 safety tests for the energy storage battery discharge control experiment were conducted rigorously. This laboratory is the first of its kind in the country to test large-scale energy storage systems.
One of the main outcomes of this project is the establishment of a comprehensive testing platform for large-scale energy storage systems with a capacity of up to 500 megawatt-hours. This platform will facilitate the evaluation of safety standards and operational performance for energy storage technologies.
The safety evaluation laboratory of the Southern Power Grid has achieved 97.6% operational reliability by implementing advanced maintenance protocols to ensure the system’s integrity.
By 2025, it is projected that the number of stations connected to the platform will reach 85, accounting for over 2% of the national total capacity.
Furthermore, the project intends to utilize non-toxic materials to enhance the safety of energy storage systems, ensuring they operate without hazardous substances. The Southern Power Grid’s energy storage technology will significantly improve the safety and efficiency of energy storage systems.
As part of this initiative, the energy storage system’s safety features will function effectively even under extreme conditions, maintaining its operational standards.
Since its inception, the energy storage system has undergone extensive testing at multiple sites, demonstrating its applicability across various energy scenarios. This includes evaluations from the energy supply, grid stability, and end-user interfaces.
With an eye on future applications, the project emphasizes the importance of regulatory compliance and safety performance, aiming for improvements that exceed current technological standards by 30%.
Overall, through three years of dedicated efforts, the “Zhuo” energy storage system is set to become a benchmark in the industry, linking various operational levels and enhancing safety management technologies.
