New Energy Development Targets Continue to “Rise”
Recently, the State Grid Corporation of China has announced updates regarding its new energy development goals. The focus remains on enhancing the capacity of new energy sources, particularly in the wind and solar sectors. As of April 24, 2025, the new energy capacity is set to expand significantly.
The State Grid’s newest solar power station, located in the Hebei province, has seen the installation of 27 new energy storage units. These units will operate during peak demand and high output periods, effectively utilizing the differences in electricity prices to maximize revenue. “The energy station can achieve an output of 90% efficiency daily,” noted a representative from the corporation.
Currently, the State Grid is on track to complete over 200 newly constructed energy storage stations, totaling an installed capacity of approximately 977.7 megawatts. This recent expansion is part of a broader trend in new energy resource development, which has accelerated rapidly.
As the year progresses, the new energy sector is expected to reach a capacity of 1 billion kilowatts. However, challenges remain regarding the high costs associated with electricity transmission and the unique characteristics of energy storage, which are essential to ensure stable power supply. Innovations in energy storage technology, along with high efficiency and quality standards, are crucial for the future of new energy resources.
The focus on developing new energy storage is part of China’s overarching strategy to enhance energy security and stability. This includes advancing the technology for energy storage systems while ensuring efficient integration with existing power grids.
In 2024, the new energy sector is projected to deliver approximately 44.8 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, with a 3.6% increase in effective energy utilization. “By 2024, the annual energy storage capacity of new energy sources is expected to hit 555.3 billion kilowatt-hours, representing a 139% increase,” stated a spokesperson from the State Grid.
Furthermore, the upcoming projects planned for 2024 will encompass a variety of energy types, including batteries, hydrogen storage, and thermal energy storage, which are anticipated to have widespread applications in the energy sector.
In summary, the latest updates on the new energy development projects indicate a continued commitment to expanding capacity and improving technology. The focus remains on achieving higher efficiency and better integration with the national grid, all while ensuring a sustainable and stable energy supply for the future.
