National Energy Administration: China’s Renewable Energy Generation to Increase by 43.9% in 2025 Winter Season

National

The National Energy Administration: In the first quarter of 2025, the cumulative power generation from renewable energy sources is projected to increase by 43.9%. The administration has announced that renewable energy, particularly solar power, will play a crucial role in meeting energy demands. The development of solar energy systems will contribute significantly to household energy consumption and industrial energy needs, enhancing the overall energy mix.

According to projections, by the first quarter of 2025, renewable energy generation will reach approximately 767.5 billion kilowatt-hours, marking a 21% increase compared to previous years. This figure indicates an ambitious target, with solar energy expected to constitute about 597.1 billion kilowatt-hours, hydroelectric power contributing 213 billion kilowatt-hours, and wind energy accounting for 1,462 billion kilowatt-hours.

By March 2025, it is estimated that the total renewable energy generation capacity will surpass 19.66 trillion kilowatt-hours, reflecting a 24% increase over time. This capacity will represent approximately 57.3% of the nation’s total energy generation capacity, with hydroelectric systems contributing 4.38 trillion kilowatt-hours, wind energy 5.35 trillion kilowatt-hours, and solar energy 9.46 trillion kilowatt-hours.

Additionally, by the first quarter of 2025, the cumulative power generation capacity from renewable sources is expected to reach 232.8 trillion kilowatt-hours, corresponding to a 43.9% increase, with energy utilization efficiency projected at 93.6%.

In terms of specific contributions, hydroelectric power installations are set to reach a capacity of 213 billion kilowatt-hours, while wind energy is expected to reach 1,462 billion kilowatt-hours. By March 2025, the total installed capacity for renewable energy is anticipated to be 9.45 trillion kilowatt-hours, indicating an increase of 43.4% over previous figures.

The National Energy Administration is working to promote renewable energy development through policies and initiatives aimed at enhancing energy efficiency and sustainability. These goals align with national objectives to transition to a cleaner energy landscape and address energy demands effectively.
