Ministry of Industry and Information Technology: Accelerating the Development of Mandatory National Standards for Autonomous Driving System Safety Requirements
Beijing, April 29 (Reporter Zhou Yuan, Zhang Xinxin) – The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) recently announced the key points for automotive standardization work in 2025, which includes a total of 23 items across five main areas. This initiative aims to promote the approval, release, and implementation of standards related to autonomous driving design and operational conditions, automatic parking, and simulation testing for autonomous driving. It also emphasizes the urgent need to develop mandatory national standards for the safety requirements of autonomous driving systems and to establish a safety baseline for these systems.
The key points outline the promotion of standards for remote services and management of electric vehicles (EVs), as well as the implementation of safety requirements for power batteries. Additionally, the review and approval of safety standards for electric vehicles will be advanced. Research into mandatory national standards for safety requirements regarding fuel cell electric vehicles and the recycling of power batteries will also be conducted, with a focus on continually enhancing the safety levels of electric vehicles.
Furthermore, the development and revision of mandatory national standards for combined driving assistance systems and automatic emergency braking systems will be expedited. The lane-keeping assistance system standards will be updated, and the establishment of standards for reversing assistance will be promoted to improve the safety of driving assistance products.
The key points also advocate for the implementation of mandatory national standards for side and rear collision safety. Research into testing methods, reliability, noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH), and ergonomics standards will be carried out to consistently enhance automotive quality. In-depth research into standardized user experience will be conducted, including studies on new product technologies and standards for features like hidden door handles, active pre-tensioning seat belts, wide-angle seats, and in-vehicle alert sounds.
Additionally, the key points address the establishment of a standards system, the expansion of international cooperation on standards, and the enhancement of automotive standards governance.
