Medco Energi Supports Sustainable Energy Development and Showcases Achievements at AOF – Medco Energi’s involvement in empowering local communities around its operational areas was highlighted during the AOF Forum. This year’s forum, themed “Shaping Future Investments”, brought together leaders from the energy and investment sectors across various countries to discuss the future of sustainable energy.
Hilmi Panigoro, the President of MedcoEnergi, attended AOF 2025 as a special guest and participated in a panel discussion alongside Oman’s Minister of Energy and Minerals, Salam Bin Nasr Al-Oufi; Abdullah Bin Ali Al-Amri, the Director of Oman’s Environmental Authority; and Luigi Di Maio, the EU Special Representative for the Gulf Region. During the discussion, Hilmi emphasized MedcoEnergi’s commitment to integrating sustainability principles into the core of its growth strategy. “Indonesia is an archipelagic nation with incredibly rich terrestrial and marine ecosystems, and protecting biodiversity is our top priority,” he stated.
Hilmi outlined several initiatives taken by MedcoEnergi, including tree planting programs, mangrove restoration and conservation, as well as the development of seaweed farming, which has become a flagship initiative. Over the past three years, MedcoEnergi has enhanced its commitment to environmental protection by planting over 500,000 trees on more than 730 hectares of land, exceeding applicable standards and regulatory requirements. The mangrove protection program has also been extended to MedcoEnergi’s operations in Thailand, while the seaweed farming initiative not only aids environmental conservation but also opens new economic opportunities for coastal communities, including a pilot project in Oman.
Hilmi explained that MedcoEnergi integrates Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles across all business lines through three main pillars: leadership from employees to promote awareness, skill development, and accountability; collaboration with external research institutions to foster social and environmental development and mitigate operational impacts; and empowering local communities, particularly in land operations. “Community engagement is the key to the success of our sustainability initiatives,” Hilmi emphasized. “Wherever we operate, we must share our vision and build strong connections with surrounding communities.” Through these three pillars, MedcoEnergi aims not only to maintain sustainable business growth but also to actively contribute to climate change mitigation, biodiversity protection, and the creation of economic value for communities.
