Luminous Expands Battery Manufacturing with New Haridwar Plant

Luminous Power Technologies, India’s leading energy solutions company, has announced a significant expansion of its manufacturing capabilities with the establishment of a new production unit for Lead Acid Batteries in North India. The facility, which covers 8 acres, is strategically located at the SIDCUL Industrial Estate in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, to better serve its growing customer base.

This new plant is set to greatly enhance the company’s production capacity and address the increasing demand for power storage solutions in both domestic and export markets. Committed to sustainable production, the factory has been equipped with 3036 solar panels that generate 1MW of solar power, making it the second-largest industrial solar rooftop installation in Uttarakhand.

Notably, the Haridwar plant will introduce the first-ever green positive plate manufacturing in the industry, utilizing 100% grey oxide through a wet paste filling process for industrial batteries. The facility also features an acid circulation system and an automatic battery assembly line that operates at twice the speed of traditional assembly lines. This advanced technology is designed to be water-efficient and facilitates rapid battery charging.

The factory incorporates a smart interface for monitoring finished goods stock, a simulation area, and digital dashboards that provide real-time production data. Additionally, it includes an innovative learning center called DOJO, aimed at enhancing learning opportunities for employees at all levels.

Equipped with advanced manufacturing processes, the plant is expected to produce 1.5-2 GWh of power backup capabilities annually. To boost operational efficiency, the facility employs a LEAN layout along with cutting-edge automation, ensuring consistent product quality and faster production cycles. Furthermore, it houses an advanced Lead Acid & Alternative Chemistry Laboratory, which will promote research and development in sustainable energy solutions.

This expansion marks a strategic move for Luminous, reinforcing its position as a leader in the power storage sector. The Haridwar facility will also foster talent and technological advancements, further establishing the company as an expert in comprehensive energy solutions. This project is expected to create job opportunities and contribute to regional economic growth.

In line with its commitment to green energy, Luminous has revolutionized plate processing by adopting 100% green manufacturing practices. With plans to increase production capacity, the company aims to address the growing demand-supply gap, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas that frequently face electricity shortages.

The plant has received certifications for Quality Management System (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Management, and Energy Management Systems from the British Standards Institution. It has also been recognized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in the category of ‘Best Organization Adopting Exemplary Environmental Practices.’
