LONGi Officially Launches HIBC Technology and True 700W Module at SNEC 2025
SHANGHAI, June 12, 2025 /CNW/ — On June 11, LONGi unveiled its newly developed HIBC technology and mass-produced module products at the 18th (2025) International Solar Photovoltaic Exhibition (SNEC). This innovative HIBC technology marks a significant milestone in the industry, achieving a power output of over 700W for the first time using the standard dimensions of 2382mm x 1134mm. The efficiency of these mass-produced modules approaches 26%, leading the photovoltaic module efficiency into the ‘25%+ Era’.
HIBC: A Superior Solution for High Value and Reliability
HIBC, which stands for Hybrid Interdigitated Back-Contact, combines high and low-temperature composite passivated back contact technology. This integration allows for the large-scale mass production of modules, marking a first in the world. Zhong Baoshen, Chairman of LONGi, emphasized at the press conference that this achievement represents another peak in LONGi’s technological innovation and a significant advancement in back contact technology.
In April 2025, the Institute for Solar Energy Research Hamelin (ISFH) in Germany confirmed that HIBC cells achieved a conversion efficiency of 27.81%, setting a new world record. Zhong Baoshen noted that conversion efficiency is vital not only for photovoltaic technology but also for the overall quality of photovoltaic products. LONGi continues to advocate for enhancing power output within the same area or standard size to maximize unit yield, arguing that simply increasing efficiency through physical stacking offers limited customer value and raises reliability concerns.
Despite LONGi’s HPBC 2.0 products leading the market with 72-piece standard-size modules and a 30W advantage over TOPCon products, the company remains committed to continuous technological innovation and product development.
Introducing ‘Power Density’
The HIBC technology revealed at the conference achieves over 700W with a standard size of 2382mm x 1134mm, resulting in a power density exceeding 259W/㎡ and a module efficiency of 25.9%. This represents the most efficient industrial photovoltaic product available today. Zhong Baoshen stated, “Through improved efficiency, we achieve a true unity of high value and reliability.”
In comparison to other industry 700W modules, which typically measure 2384mm x 1303mm, LONGi’s module occupies 0.4㎡ less area while providing a power density that is 34W/㎡ higher, challenging the notion that larger sizes yield higher power outputs. This introduction of the concept of “power density” by LONGi signifies a commitment to technological innovation and customer-centered solutions.
Another significant benefit of HIBC technology is its role in propelling mass-produced photovoltaic module efficiency into the ‘25%+ Era’. Historically, module efficiencies peaked at 22% during the PERC era, reached 23% with TOPCon, and broke through to 24% with the introduction of back contact technology. The new 700W module from LONGi represents the culmination of HJT high-quality passivation technology applied to back contact systems. Zhong Baoshen remarked, “In less than three years, we have elevated module efficiency to a new level, showcasing the expansive potential of back contact technology.”
Recognition from Experts
Professor Martin Green, known as the “Father of Solar Energy” from the University of New South Wales in Australia, praised LONGi’s advancements in back contact technology during the press conference, highlighting that LONGi’s HIBC technology ranks first in the updated world solar cell efficiency list.
Additionally, HIBC products utilize high-density packaging technology, increasing the cell screen occupation ratio from 93.2% to 95.1%, which significantly enhances light absorption while balancing reliability and efficiency.
On May 7, LONGi launched the EcoLife series at the Intersolar exhibition, showcasing mass-produced products based on HIBC technology, achieving a cell efficiency of 27.3% and module efficiency exceeding 25%.
Building a BC Ecosystem
At the press conference, Zhong Baoshen shared the progress of the BC ecosystem established since its launch in 2023. As of late May 2025, LONGi has engaged in technical partnerships with 191 global partners and secured 55 collaborations across seven major sectors, including silicon wafers, cells, modules, system solutions, hydrogen energy, biomass, and engineering technology, generating initial revenues of 1.95 billion yuan.
During the SNEC exhibition on May 24, 2023, LONGi launched the STAR Innovation Ecological Collaboration Platform to foster a global collaborative innovation ecosystem centered around the ‘Global Zero Carbon Technology Innovation Center’.
On July 3, 2024, at the opening ceremony of the Global Distributed R&D Center, LONGi announced the operational guidelines for building the BC ecosystem, which include three value propositions, three cooperation principles, and four evaluation modules to ensure effective implementation through a professional organization, comprehensive processes, digital systems, and full-cycle monitoring.
Zhong Baoshen concluded, “Our commitment remains to start from the end and focus on cultivating a sustainable and healthy development path for the photovoltaic industry.” Looking ahead, LONGi plans to broaden and deepen its collaborations to enhance and extend the value of back contact technology across diverse industries and households.
