Longi Green Energy’s 5GW High-Efficiency Solar Module Project in Ordos Achieves Full Production Capacity

LONGi Green Energy has successfully achieved full production capacity at its 5GW high-efficiency photovoltaic module project in Ordos. Previously, on August 25, 2022, LONGi Green Energy announced its investment of 10.754 billion yuan in the Yijinhuoluo Banner of Inner Mongolia to establish a project that includes a 46GW monocrystalline silicon rod and wafer production line, a 30GW high-efficiency monocrystalline cell project, and the 5GW high-efficiency photovoltaic module project. The construction of the 5GW module project broke ground on March 16, 2024, and by December 10, 2024, LONGi had already begun equipment installation ahead of schedule. On March 8, 2025, two production lines officially commenced operations, achieving a daily production capacity of over 5,000 solar panels by early April and generating a monthly output value of 50 million yuan.

According to previous media reports, by early April, the third production line entered the debugging phase and was expected to start production by mid-April, while the fourth line was set to begin operations in early May. Once fully operational, the four production lines will have a total annual capacity of 5GW, allowing for the production of over 15 million high-efficiency photovoltaic modules and generating an annual output value exceeding 1.3 billion yuan. On April 3, 2025, Ordos announced that LONGi’s 5GW high-efficiency photovoltaic module project had delivered impressive results at an astonishing construction speed. The project, which began construction on March 16, 2024, is set to achieve full production capacity by the end of May 2025, completing what typically takes two years in just 13 months and surpassing its capacity ramp-up targets ahead of schedule, setting a new benchmark for high-quality development in the domestic new energy industry.

As a core component of the zero-carbon industrial park’s “wind, solar, hydrogen, storage, and vehicle” industry chain, the LONGi 5GW high-efficiency photovoltaic module project covers a total construction area of 171,800 square meters, including module manufacturing facilities, storage, and supporting infrastructure. In the face of significant scale and tight schedules, the investment group coordinated efforts and adopted an unconventional “start immediately” approach, completing the main construction in just nine months. By December 10, 2024, LONGi had commenced equipment installation ahead of schedule, and by March 8, 2025, two production lines were officially operational. By early April 2025, the daily production capacity of a single line exceeded 5,000 solar panels, generating a monthly output value of 50 million yuan.

Currently, the third production line is in the debugging phase, expected to commence production in mid-April, with the fourth line anticipated to begin operations in early May. At that time, the four production lines will achieve an annual capacity of 5GW, producing over 15 million high-efficiency photovoltaic modules and generating an annual output value exceeding 1.3 billion yuan. The rapid implementation of this project is attributed to the “special service” mechanism from the local committee and government, which streamlined the approval process and reduced the time for preliminary procedures by 70%. This allowed for the realization of “signing the contract and obtaining land, followed by immediate construction.”

The successful execution of the LONGi 5GW project provides a replicable and promotable experience for large-scale new energy projects, with its seamless connection of “design-construction-production” set to redefine industry standards for construction timelines. In the future, as the entire industrial chain of the zero-carbon industrial park becomes integrated, this area will emerge as a new hub for global green manufacturing.
