LG Chem to Showcase Precursor-Free Cathode Materials at Interbattery 2025

March 6, 2025 – LG Chem is set to announce its first mass production of precursor-free cathode materials in Korea. The company will present its next-generation battery materials at the Interbattery 2025 exhibition, taking place from March 5-7 at COEX in Seoul, South Korea. This marks a significant step for LG Chem as it becomes the first Korean firm to mass-produce these innovative materials.

Interbattery is recognized as Korea’s largest battery industry exhibition, attracting participation from over 640 companies across more than 400,000 square meters of exhibition space worldwide. LG Chem’s LPF (LG Precursor Free) cathode materials are produced through a direct calcination process using custom-designed metals, eliminating the need for precursors. This method enhances power performance at low temperatures and significantly reduces development time, leading to a decrease in both wastewater and carbon footprints.

Set to begin mass production of LPF cathode materials in the first half of this year, LG Chem plans to broaden the application of LPF technology across new products. This initiative aims to provide customers with unique, customized solutions that excel in performance, cost-efficiency, and environmental sustainability.

At the exhibition, LG Chem will also highlight its premier high-Ni cathode materials, along with a variety of products and technical solutions designed to improve the cost-effectiveness of affordable electric vehicles (EVs). This presentation will be under the theme “Sustainable Future, Powered by LG Chem.”

Among the products showcased will be ultra-high-Ni materials containing over 95% nickel, high-voltage mid-Ni, high-density lithium iron phosphates (LFP), and advanced LFP products blended with nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM). The company will also demonstrate vital technologies such as single crystal control and advanced manufacturing techniques using smart factories.

In addition, LG Chem will introduce next-generation materials that include safety solutions like Nexula™ (aerogel thermal barrier), flame barrier foams (FBF), and flame barrier sheets (FBS). These innovations are designed to prevent or delay fires and limit thermal propagation in batteries. The company will also showcase cables and housings for EV chargers, as well as next-generation cathode materials for dry electrode and solid-state batteries.

Furthermore, LG Chem will launch a new website to enhance the digital customer experience, providing detailed information about key exhibition items and insights into the company’s advancements in EV-related materials.

“We are committed to targeting the future market with next-generation innovative materials for batteries, including LPF cathode materials and safety solutions,” said Shin Hak-Cheol, CEO of LG Chem. “Through continuous technological innovations and customer-focused solutions, we will lead the battery materials market.”
