Are Energy Storage Companies Required to Practice Self-Regulation? Over 20 Major Companies, Including CATL, Gather to Discuss Initiatives
On April 15, 2025, reports emerged that the photovoltaic inverter and energy storage sectors in China may soon follow the self-regulatory actions of the solar industry. Sources indicate that the China Photovoltaic Industry Association recently convened a closed-door symposium aimed at preventing “involution” and harmful competition within these industries. The meeting provisionally reviewed proposals for the healthy development of the inverter and energy storage sectors.
Participating in the meeting were executives from over 20 leading companies, including Sunpower, Huawei, CRRC, CATL, Yiwei Lithium Energy, GoodWe, GCL-Poly, Jinlang Technology, Shangneng Electric, Zhengwei, TEBA, Hema, Hewang, DeYe, Shouhang New Energy, Yuneng Technology, and Envision Energy.
According to attendees, the initiative does not address issues such as pricing, quotas, or deposits. A preliminary round of soliciting opinions on the initiative has already been completed. In recent years, the prices of photovoltaic inverters and energy storage products have continued to decline, risking a cycle of irrational competition within the industry.
