Launch of All-Silicon Carbide 10kV Direct Super Charging System in Hunan Marks a Milestone in Electric Vehicle Infrastructure

Launch

Recently, the State Grid Hunan Electric Power Research Institute’s all-silicon carbide network-type 10 kV direct-mounted supercharging system passed the National Energy Administration’s review for the first major technological equipment in the energy sector. This system is currently undergoing trial operation at a supercharging station in the Xiangjiang New Area of Hunan, achieving a remarkable charging speed of 1 kilometer in just 1 second. This marks the first commercial application of domestically produced medium-voltage silicon carbide devices, with potential cost reductions of 20%.

This innovative system has been developed collaboratively by the State Grid Hunan Electric Power Research Institute and CRRC Zhuzhou Institute. It represents a fully domestic solution, encompassing everything from the main control chip to the embedded operating system. The integrated charging station and the 10 kV direct-mounted design offer several advantages, including a smaller footprint, lower energy loss, high charging power, and robust grid support. The system’s efficiency has been improved from 91% to 96%, fulfilling the adaptive matching requirements for electric vehicle charging platforms within the 200 to 1000 volts range.

In addition to its rapid charging capabilities, this system can also precisely control the charging speed and amount of electricity based on the specific needs of different vehicle models, thereby enhancing battery protection.

For more detailed insights, you can refer to the recent announcements by the National Energy Administration regarding the fifth batch of major technological equipment in the energy sector.
