Largest Offshore Wind Power Project Begins Construction in Jiangsu, China

Largest

The largest offshore wind power project under the regulations of the State Grid Corporation has commenced construction in Gansu Province as of October 16, 2025. Located in the city of Jiuquan, the 350 MW wind power project marks the beginning of construction for what is anticipated to be the largest offshore wind power initiative in the country.

According to reports, the total investment for this project is approximately 54.35 billion yuan. It utilizes domestically developed tower-type wind turbines and features advanced energy storage technologies. The project is set to include three wind farms and a single gas turbine with a total installed capacity spread across an area of 330,000 square meters. This initiative represents the most significant offshore wind power project in the nation to date, with plans for grid connection and power generation scheduled for September 2027.

Upon completion, the project is expected to generate an estimated 9.6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, making it the highest power-producing wind project in the country. This output is equivalent to approximately 26.34 million tons of standard coal and will help reduce carbon emissions by around 72 million tons.

Furthermore, the total installed capacity of the Gansu power grid has reached 77,285.2 megawatts, with renewable energy resources accounting for 93.46% and new energy resources making up 72.25%, placing Gansu at the forefront of the country’s energy transition.
