In April 2025, in Munich, Germany, and Shanghai, China, Infineon Technologies announced an enhanced collaboration with KSTAR Technology Co., Ltd. This partnership aims to achieve technological breakthroughs in KSTAR’s high-power, high-frequency UPS systems by providing a complete suite of power semiconductor solutions, including the Infineon 1200V CoolSiC™ MOSFET, CoolSiC™ diodes, 650V CoolSiC™ MOSFETs, and EiceDRIVER™ series single-channel isolated drivers.
KSTAR and Infineon have been working closely for over 30 years, particularly in the fields of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems and photovoltaic inverters. As KSTAR’s core semiconductor supplier, their collaboration spans the entire evolution of power device technology—from IGBTs to SiC devices—jointly driving the application value of new power semiconductor products in UPS scenarios. Their partnership has also expanded into the new energy sector, incorporating Infineon’s power modules into various photovoltaic inverter products to set new benchmarks for power density and energy efficiency.
As global data centers rapidly transition towards greater efficiency and density, the demand for high-frequency, mid-to-large power UPS systems continues to rise. Industry analysis predicts that with the proliferation of 5G, AI, and cloud computing technologies, the global data center market is expected to exceed 15 billion USD by 2025. As a core power supply component, UPS systems face increasingly stringent requirements for energy efficiency, power density, and reliability. However, traditional silicon-based devices encounter significant challenges related to efficiency, thermal management, and size, which limit industry development.
In response to these challenges, KSTAR announced a technological breakthrough in its 100kVA online UPS system through its deepened collaboration with Infineon. This new system offers global customers a next-generation UPS solution that is high-frequency, highly efficient, and highly reliable. By utilizing Infineon’s comprehensive product offerings, KSTAR has successfully increased the UPS power density to 37.95W/in³, reduced its volume by 39%, and achieved an online mode efficiency exceeding 98%, with HECO mode efficiency at 99%, setting industry-leading standards. This solution supports the performance and environmental value required for the next generation of green data centers.
KSTAR prioritizes customer needs by ensuring efficient delivery and global service capabilities. Through its long-term partnership with Infineon, KSTAR guarantees a stable supply of core components, providing robust support for project delivery to customers worldwide. Currently, KSTAR’s UPS products are available in over 180 countries and regions. According to reports from Omdia and CIConsultants, KSTAR ranks as the fifth largest UPS supplier globally and has held the position of the top local brand in the Chinese UPS market for 23 consecutive years.
Chen Jia, Deputy General Manager of KSTAR, stated, “KSTAR consistently focuses on innovation in UPS power reliability and energy efficiency breakthroughs as core technological goals. As an important partner and core component supplier, Infineon’s CoolSiC™ MOSFET provides the essential technological support for achieving the three major advancements of ‘high frequency, high efficiency, and high reliability’ in our UPS systems. Through deep collaboration with Infineon, we merge innovative device-level developments with KSTAR’s system-level architecture, reshaping the limits of power design efficiency and accelerating data centers towards high-efficiency and low-carbon goals.”
Mr. Yu Daihui, Senior Vice President of Infineon Technologies and Head of Industrial and Infrastructure Business in Greater China, remarked, “Infineon remains at the forefront of power technology innovation, providing complete product solutions from core components to system-level applications for the UPS industry. Our continuously innovative CoolSiC™ MOSFET not only sets industry standards but also synergizes with isolated drivers, CoolMOS™, and thyristor modules to collectively push the boundaries of efficiency, density, and reliability in UPS systems, better supporting our partners in building the next generation of UPS architectures.”
