Key Highlights of 2025 Automotive Standardization: Accelerating Safety Standards for Autonomous Systems and Battery Management

Key

On April 28, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology published key points for automotive standardization work for 2025. Among the proposals, there is a focus on advancing the development of automotive electronic standards. This includes the continuous improvement of the automotive electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standard system, promoting the review and approval of national mandatory standards for electromagnetic compatibility of road vehicles, and soliciting public opinions on standards related to electrostatic discharge.

The initiative aims to accelerate the development of standards for the functional safety of autonomous driving systems, expected functional safety, and battery management systems. This will enhance the functional safety levels of critical systems. Additionally, there will be preliminary research on reliability standards for accelerated testing of electronic devices, revisions of IP (Ingress Protection) ratings, and environmental evaluation standards to improve the quality of electrical and electronic equipment.

Furthermore, the review and approval of standards for onboard MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) lidar and forward vision assistance will be expedited. Public opinions will also be solicited on standards for vehicle display terminals. The development of standards for onboard wireless broadcast reception systems and inertial navigation systems will be accelerated, along with the regulation of performance standards for vehicle electronic components.
