From Inception to Reality! The first megawatt-level commercial energy storage project in Jinan successfully connected to the grid on its first attempt.
On May 29 at 10:35 AM, the “Integrated Photovoltaic, Storage, and Charging” comprehensive energy project, developed by the Queshan Thermal Power, a subsidiary of Jinan Energy Investment Group, successfully connected to the grid for the first time. All system parameters were normal, and the equipment operated smoothly with excellent operational quality. This marks a significant milestone for Jinan city in the field of commercial energy storage.
As the city’s first megawatt-level commercial energy storage project, it integrates a 1600 kW distributed photovoltaic generation system, a 1.044 MW/3.132 MWh energy storage system, and 400 kW of smart fast charging facilities, creating a closed-loop energy system of “generation-storage-consumption.” The project adheres to the concept of “self-consumption, surplus electricity feeding into the grid, and green energy utilization,” employing three operational modes of photovoltaic generation, energy storage peak shaving, and smart charging to enhance both economic and environmental benefits.
Since the project’s commencement, Queshan Thermal Power has coordinated various efforts, upholding the principles of “safety first, quality foremost, and efficient advancement.” The project leader has taken charge on-site, with technical experts closely monitoring the operations, and the project team maintaining round-the-clock vigilance. Through scientific planning, meticulous organization, and strict management, they have achieved the goal of creating a high-quality project with high standards.
During the grid connection process, the project team utilized digital management technologies to optimize resource allocation and control the entire process. A smart platform monitored equipment operations, providing clear visibility of data such as equipment temperature, state of charge, real-time power, and current and voltage levels. This high level of digitalization laid a solid foundation for the successful grid connection.
“Commercial energy storage differs significantly from energy storage on the generation side and grid side in terms of application scenarios, functional positioning, and value realization paths. Its core advantages lie in the flexible utilization of user-side resources, economic optimization, and distributed collaborative potential, making it an essential component of the new power system,” explained project site leader Li Hongwei.
The successful grid connection of this project represents a breakthrough for Jinan’s megawatt-level commercial energy storage initiatives, providing valuable experience for further development in this area. Once fully operational, the project will greatly meet the energy supply needs of the industrial park, serving as a “stabilizer” and “ballast” for the local power supply, which is crucial for promoting the development of the clean energy industry and advancing the green transformation of the energy structure in the region.
