Retail Industry’s “Throne Defense Battle”: JD.com Redefines Its 2026 Sales Targets with 180 Billion Yuan Focus on 3C Appliances
On February 12, JD.com officially announced its strategic partnership with major appliance manufacturers such as Midea, Haier, Hisense, and TCL, setting a comprehensive sales target of 180 billion yuan by 2026. This initiative is focused on the core categories of 3C appliances (computers, communications, and consumer electronics). Additionally, JD.com launched its self-operated flagship rental store, which specializes in 3C products and robotics, just in time for the Spring Festival. Furthermore, JD.com established a new department dedicated to AI products to enhance its core business in 3C appliances and explore new ventures in response to the anticipated explosion of AI consumption.
JD.com has chosen to focus on its core retail business at the beginning of the year. In the strategic agreements signed with Midea, Haier, Hisense, and TCL on February 12, JD.com and Hisense committed to jointly achieving a sales target of 100 billion yuan over the next three years. This partnership emphasizes growth in categories such as televisions, air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, and small appliances. The sales strategy includes both online channels, centered around JD.com’s main site, and nearly 30,000 offline venues including JD MALL, city flagship stores, and appliance specialty stores.
In January, JD.com also entered into a strategic cooperation agreement with vivo, aiming for over 100 billion yuan in sales across JD’s channels within three years. This collaboration focuses on vivo and iQOO brands, aiming to boost sales in categories like smartphones, tablets, headphones, smart wearables, and IoT products.
During a press conference held by the State Council Information Office on February 11, Vice Minister of Commerce Sheng Qiuping announced that the Ministry of Commerce, in conjunction with the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Finance, has allocated the first batch of 62.5 billion yuan in subsidies to local commerce departments. This initiative aims to enhance subsidies during the nine-day Spring Festival holiday, supporting both major household appliances and consumer electronics, especially in light of the recent government subsidies for upgrading products.
As other internet giants compete aggressively for AI traffic, JD.com remains focused on its core retail business and the sales of its strong product categories. Unlike its competitors, JD.com seeks to maintain its dominance in the sales of AI products. At the recent Winter Davos meeting, JD.com’s SEC Vice Chair and CEO Xu Ran highlighted that 2025 is expected to be the year of explosive growth in AI consumption, with search volume predicted to increase more than a hundredfold year on year.
JD.com’s emphasis on new AI products and innovative sales strategies is a primary focus as it begins the new year. By the end of 2025, JD.com will debut Utree Technology’s humanoid robot R1 at its JD MALL store in Beijing, priced starting at 29,900 yuan. Additionally, JD.com’s self-developed AI toys have quickly sold out several times since their launch last year, while third-party AI toys from brands like Huawei and UBTech are also performing well on the platform.
Recognizing the potential of AI consumption, JD.com announced the establishment of the “Chameleon Business Department” at the start of 2026, which will focus on developing and commercializing core AI products like the JoyAI App, JoyInside, and digital humans. In preparation for the Spring Festival, JD.com also launched its rental business, with the “JD Self-Operated Rental Flagship Store” focusing on rentals of 3C products and robots.
Notably, JD.com is investing heavily in the sales and rental of robot products. Recent developments in the global robot rental service sector, including management adjustments at a leading rental platform, signal the growing potential of the robotics rental market. This reinforces JD.com’s commitment to investing significantly in this area.
JD.com’s expansion into the automotive sector is also noteworthy, as selling cars is a crucial step in enhancing its retail dominance. On November 5, 2022, JD.com exclusively launched the Aion UT super 1 car, produced in collaboration with GAC and CATL at the GAC Aion smart factory in Changsha.
From the establishment of ambitious sales targets in the 3C appliance market to the launch of its rental business, JD.com is forging ahead with a dual strategy in the 3C appliance sector as it begins 2026. One path focuses on solidifying its core business, while the other explores new opportunities—both lines will be crucial in determining the future direction of JD.com.
