### Promoting Environmental Awareness in the City of Irvine
#### Shred Event
**Saturday, June 7, 9–11 a.m.**
**Location:** Lakeview Senior Center, 20 Lake Road
In collaboration with Waste Management, the City of Irvine is hosting a complimentary paper-shredding event on Saturday, June 7, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Lakeview Senior Center. Irvine residents can securely dispose of up to five banker-size file boxes. The event operates on a first-come, first-served basis and may conclude early if the truck reaches capacity. Those wishing to observe the shredding process must park in a designated area away from the truck and staff.
#### 2025 Cool Irvine Eco Fair
**Saturday, June 14, 10 a.m.–1 p.m.**
**Location:** Palm Court Arts Complex at The Great Park, 8000 Great Park Blvd.
Join us for the 2025 Cool Irvine Eco Fair, a lively, family-friendly event dedicated to sustainable living and climate action. Hosted by Cool Irvine in partnership with the City of Irvine and local organizations, this interactive fair will showcase compost demonstrations, upcycled arts and crafts, food trucks, and exciting opportunity drawings. Discover energy efficiency, solar options, electric vehicles, and local incentives that facilitate sustainable living. Engage in water conservation tips, waste reduction strategies, plant-based diets, and more. Bring the entire family for hands-on activities, inspiring exhibits, and a day dedicated to fostering a greener, more resilient future. #### Calling All Future Climate Leaders!
Are you a middle or high school student eager to make a difference in your community and the planet? Apply now for the Cool Irvine Youth Climate Leadership Program! This summer, join other motivated youth for an engaging mix of interactive training and hands-on activities aimed at enhancing your leadership skills and climate knowledge. Choose between sessions in June or July, complete just 10 hours of group training along with some independent work, and graduate with a certificate and celebration! #### Solarize Irvine Workshop
**Monday, June 23, 6:30–8 p.m.**
**Location:** Deerfield Community Center, 55 Deerwood West
Meet with experts to explore the advantages of solar energy for your home. Take advantage of the 30% Federal Tax Credit for solar and batteries. Learn about group discounts for solar, battery storage, and EV chargers. Enhance your home’s value while maximizing savings on your energy bills. Interact with community-screened solar contractors. A social hour with refreshments begins at 6 p.m., followed by educational presentations starting at 6:30 p.m. OC Goes Solar is a nonprofit dedicated to helping neighbors adopt solar energy together by guiding the community in contractor vetting, simplifying equipment selection, and negotiating warranties and group discount pricing. #### Residential Lawn and Garden Equipment Rebate
The City of Irvine has partnered with the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) to assist residents in transitioning to zero-emission lawn and garden equipment. Rebates for residential lawn and garden equipment are now available for Irvine residents. Each household can receive up to three rebates throughout the program’s duration, but only for different types of equipment. The rebate cannot exceed the purchase price of the equipment (excluding taxes and delivery). For more details, see the Electric Lawn Equipment Rebate Program flier.
#### Calling All Irvine Small Businesses & Nonprofits
Apply today for a $500 Green Business Energy-Efficiency Mini-Grant. This grant supports energy-efficient upgrades, including Energy Star-rated appliances, EV chargers, LED lighting, smart thermostats, e-bikes, energy-efficient monitors, laptops, and more. Open to all eligible Irvine Green Businesses and those who register with the Irvine Green Business Program, this grant will help you save energy and money through energy-efficient upgrades! Applications are due by July 1, 2025.
#### Go Green & Save Money! Become An Irvine Green Business.
Join the Irvine Green Business Program and receive free technical assistance to help your business operate sustainably, save money, and protect the environment. This program is free and voluntary for Irvine businesses and nonprofits, including home offices. Benefits include up to $500 in rebate funding.
