International Solar Alliance to Convene Sixth Regional Committee Meeting in Brussels Focusing on Solar Energy Strategies

International

The International Solar Alliance (ISA) is set to host its Sixth Regional Committee Meeting for Europe and other regions from June 10 to 12, 2025, in Brussels, Belgium. This significant event will convene leaders from government, industry, and institutions to promote solar strategies, with a focus on artificial intelligence in energy, global solar value chains, and green hydrogen. The aim is to accelerate the global transition to clean energy.

This year’s meeting will gather representatives from various countries, technical universities, think tanks, institutional partners, and private sector leaders to create a coordinated and strategic agenda for global solar deployment. Under the theme “Elevating the Region’s Role in the Global Solar Transition,” the meeting is expected to yield actionable strategies in key areas such as innovation, policy, finance, and capacity building.

Mr. Ashish Khanna, Director General of ISA, emphasized the importance of this meeting, stating, “The Sixth Regional Committee Meeting of the International Solar Alliance for Europe and the Others Region will be a pivotal platform to advance collaborative action on solar energy.” He also announced the launch of a USD 200 million catalytic finance facility for Africa, which aims to integrate ten existing national centers of excellence within Member Countries alongside a Global Capability Centre. This initiative will provide advanced AI and digital solutions, technology policy frameworks, and pathways for regional transformation.

The meeting will be supported by regional leadership from Germany and Italy as Vice Presidents and will receive strategic backing from the Embassy of India, Belgium, Luxembourg, and the European Union. Mr. Khanna expressed gratitude to partners for their invaluable contributions, stating, “We are particularly grateful to Germany and France, the Embassy of India in Belgium, and the European Union. Your collaboration strengthens our collective efforts to accelerate the global solar transition.”

The Sixth RCM will tackle several key ISA priorities aimed at increasing global solar adoption, including:

– **Catalytic Finance Hub**: This hub will offer blended finance to mitigate risks and encourage private investment in Africa, with USD 74 million already mobilized from the USD 200 million fund. Future facilities will also be developed for Asia, the Pacific, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

– **Global Capability Centre and Digitization**: This initiative seeks to create a “Silicon Valley for solar” in India through a hub-and-spoke model, connecting existing national centers of excellence and promoting innovation via the Solar X Startup Challenge.

– **Regional and Country-Level Engagement**: The RCM will focus on platforms for aggregation and scaling, such as the SIDS platform, which emphasizes e-tendering and e-procurement.

– **Technology Roadmap and Policy**: The meeting will address the adoption of solar energy in ISA Member Countries, particularly concerning supply chain diversification and emerging technologies.

The thematic sessions at the RCM will align discussions with several goals:

– **Co-designing the Solar Global Capability Centre (GCC)**: Training institutions, technical universities, and think tanks will collaborate to develop solar training modules and certification programs that support ISA’s flagship Solar GCC.

– **Policy Innovation and Roadmaps**: With over 80% of ISA Member Countries needing comprehensive national solar strategies, structured dialogues will facilitate the development of enabling policy ecosystems in partnership with developing countries.

– **Digital Public Infrastructure for Energy**: The meeting will highlight the role of digital transformation in the solar sector, focusing on AI-driven energy management systems and digital tools that help reduce costs and integrate renewables effectively.

– **Mobilizing Private Sector Capital**: Recognizing that over 70% of global net-zero investments are expected to come from the private sector, the ISA’s CEO Caucus will serve as a high-level forum to enhance public-private partnerships and co-investment strategies in emerging markets.

This Regional Committee Meeting is poised to set a transformative agenda for the upcoming year and outline a long-term vision for ISA. It will culminate in a roadmap that aligns strategic thinking with concrete actions, in accordance with ISA’s Framework Agreement and global climate objectives.

### About the ISA Regional Committee for Europe and the Others Region Meeting

The ISA’s Regional Committees convene annually and are chaired by two Vice-Presidents from the region. Their purpose is to assess and discuss progress, challenges, and opportunities related to ISA’s initiatives. The Europe and Others Region currently comprises 15 Member Countries, 4 Signatory Countries, and 32 Prospective Countries, totaling 51 countries engaged in ISA activities. This growing representation underscores a strong foundation for advancing collaborative solar initiatives.
