Infineon and Visteon Collaborate to Develop Advanced Power Conversion Systems for Next-Generation Electric Vehicles

Infineon

Infineon Technologies and Visteon Corporation have announced a partnership aimed at developing advanced power conversion systems for the next generation of electric vehicles. This collaboration was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the two companies.

The partnership will focus on integrating Infineon’s semiconductor-based power converters, with a particular emphasis on wide bandgap device technology. Compared to traditional silicon-based semiconductors, this technology offers significant advantages in power conversion applications, including higher power density, improved efficiency, and enhanced thermal performance. These enhancements are expected to help reduce costs and improve the efficiency of next-generation power conversion modules in the automotive industry.

Future applications of Visteon’s electric vehicle powertrains may involve Infineon’s CoolGaN™ (gallium nitride) and CoolSiC™ (silicon carbide) devices for components such as battery junction boxes, DC-DC converters, and onboard chargers. The resulting powertrain systems will be characterized by exceptional efficiency, stability, and reliability.

Dr. Tao Wang, head of Visteon’s electrification product line, stated, “Collaborating with Infineon enables us to integrate advanced semiconductor technologies that are crucial for enhancing power conversion efficiency and overall system capabilities in next-generation electric vehicles. This partnership will drive technological advancements for both companies, helping us transition to a more sustainable and efficient automotive ecosystem.”

Peter Schaefer, Infineon’s Chief Marketing Officer for automotive business, remarked, “Visteon is a recognized innovator and early adopter of new technologies, making them an ideal partner for Infineon. Together, we will advance electric vehicle technology and provide high-quality solutions for the global automotive industry.”
