Hyundai Motor has launched “The New Xcient Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Truck” to capture the North American hydrogen logistics market. The announcement was made on April 29, with the truck being unveiled at the “ACT (Advanced Clean Transportation) Expo 2025,” which took place from April 28 to May 1 at the Anaheim Convention Center in California, USA.

At the event, key figures including Jerome Grayjua, Director of the Hyundai American Technical Center (HATCI), Ken Ramirez, Vice President of Hyundai’s Global Commercial & Hydrogen Business Division, and Jim Park, Executive Director of Hyundai North America’s Commercial and Hydrogen Business, gathered for a photo opportunity.

The ACT Expo is a significant gathering that brings together manufacturers of eco-friendly commercial vehicles, energy companies, parts suppliers, and infrastructure firms to share the latest technologies, policies, and trends related to clean transportation. Hyundai has been participating in this event since 2022.

The newly introduced “The New Xcient Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Truck” was designed with active feedback from North American consumers regarding driving experiences with existing models. The truck underwent suitability tests to adapt to the diverse terrains and climate conditions of North America. Hyundai enhanced the vehicle’s power by improving the hydrogen fuel cell system and equipped it with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) that were not included in previous versions sold in North America. These features include:

  • Front Collision Avoidance
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Side Collision Warning
  • Smart Cruise Control

These improvements significantly enhance the truck’s safety. Additionally, the vehicle now features a digital cluster that provides various information related to the vehicle and a next-generation infotainment system (ccNC) with a 12.3-inch display. This system includes a commercial vehicle-specific map with real-time information about road entry restrictions.

The truck’s built-in storage functionality has also been enhanced to improve practicality and convenience. The upgraded hydrogen fuel cell system was showcased at the “ACT Expo 2025.”

Simultaneously, Hyundai announced its operational plans for the “HTWO Energy” platform, which can charge hydrogen and electric power simultaneously. To support this initiative, Hyundai will build an “HTWO Energy Flagship” facility near its Meta Plant America (HMGMA) in Elberton, Georgia. The HTWO Energy Servanner is designed to operate as a dedicated facility for large commercial vehicles, collaborating with local partners like HydroFleet, which is responsible for hydrogen production, supply, and charging equipment investment and operation.

This facility will have the capacity to produce and charge 1200 kilograms of hydrogen daily, enough to fully charge approximately 17 new Xcient hydrogen trucks, with the potential to expand hydrogen supply capacity to 4200 kilograms per day. The operations are set to begin in the second half of this year, running 24 hours a day, with plans to add more charging facilities in the future.

Ken Ramirez expressed, “With the enhanced safety and convenience of ‘The New Xcient Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Truck,’ we aim to redefine the future of clean logistics in North America. We look forward to the launch of HTWO Energy Servanner, which will fuel our clean logistics transport initiatives in the North American market.”
