In April, the blooming canola flower fields in Shimei Town, Dingcheng, Hunan, mark the arrival of spring. Amidst the vibrant yellow flowers, white wind turbines spin gracefully in the breeze. This area hosts the Dingcheng 200 MW Wind Farm, a collaborative project developed by State Power Investment Corporation’s Wuling Electric Power and Sunshine New Energy. It is the first large-scale mixed-tower wind farm in Hunan.
The Dingcheng Wind Farm leverages the technological advantages of State Power Investment Corporation and Sunshine New Energy in the wind energy sector. Utilizing Sunshine New Energy’s self-developed “Cube” technology platform, the project employs precise wind resource assessment, scenario integration, and intelligent site selection methods to optimally position 40 smart wind turbines in Shimei Town, Haozigang Town, and Zhonghekou Town. The wind turbines are equipped with Sunshine Power’s doubly-fed wind power converters, which offer high voltage, large power output, high power density, enhanced grid adaptability, and improved environmental compatibility.
The wind turbines stand at a height of 160 meters and utilize mixed-tower technology, which not only improves their overall strength, stability, and safety but also allows them to capture stronger and more stable wind energy from higher altitudes, thereby increasing electricity generation. Earlier this year, the Dingcheng Wind Farm received the world’s first mixed-tower construction quality SOC certification from TÜV Rheinland, signifying that the wind farm meets international standards for mixed-tower quality management.
As one of the key wind power projects in Hunan Province’s 14th Five-Year Plan, the wind farm represents a collaboration of resources and technical expertise between State Power Investment Corporation’s Wuling Electric Power and Sunshine New Energy. It is expected to generate approximately 423 million kWh of clean electricity annually, reducing carbon emissions by about 35,000 tons and equivalent to a reduction of around 130,000 tons of standard coal. This initiative not only provides a boost to local employment and tax revenue but also sets a benchmark for rural tourism development, thereby injecting strong momentum into the region’s goals of achieving carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, as well as supporting socio-economic transformation.
On this land kissed by the spring breeze, the 40 wind turbines stand as iconic landmarks of modern zero-carbon technology, while also enhancing the picturesque landscape of beautiful rural areas. Sunshine New Energy is committed to developing more eco-friendly wind farms, weaving a narrative of sustainable development in the harmonious blend of technology and culture.
