One minute to charge 20 kilowatt-hours! Huawei is set to ignite a supercharging revolution, transforming charging stations into “gas stations.” On April 22, Huawei will unveil a new line of supercharging products during the “2025 Huawei Intelligent Electric & Smart Charging Network Strategy and New Product Release Conference.” At this event, they will introduce their new megawatt supercharging product.
According to Huawei's previous announcements, this megawatt-level charging product can deliver a maximum charging current of 2400 amperes and a peak power of 1.5 megawatts. It can replenish 20 kilowatt-hours of energy in just one minute, enabling a full charge for an electric heavy-duty truck (with a battery capacity of approximately 300 kilowatt-hours) in just 15 minutes. This product addresses both safety issues associated with charging and the challenges of low-cost heat dissipation. Huawei has also revealed plans to launch over 30 models of 4C supercharged heavy-duty trucks this year.
This development is a significant boost for electric heavy-duty trucks, as the megawatt supercharging technology effectively solves the slow charging problem. Traditional charging methods often require several hours to fully charge heavy-duty trucks, while Huawei's new megawatt supercharger can accomplish this in just 15 minutes. This advancement means that drivers can significantly reduce their charging wait times, thus enhancing logistics efficiency.
As the market for new energy vehicles continues to grow rapidly, breakthroughs in charging technology have become a focal point of the industry. This year, automotive manufacturers have entered a race to advance charging technologies, with megawatt-level supercharging compressing charging times to the "minute level," closely mirroring the refueling experience of gasoline vehicles. This marks the beginning of a new era in electric vehicle charging efficiency.
On March 17, BYD officially launched its "Megawatt Flash Charge" technology at the Super e-Platform technology release event, featuring the world's first mass-produced passenger vehicle with a 1000V high-voltage architecture and a 10C high-rate battery, achieving a charging power breakthrough of 1 megawatt.
On March 30, at the China Electric Vehicle Hundred People Forum, Zhao Yuhui, Vice President of Zeekr Technology Group, announced that they would release the world's first 1.2 megawatt fully liquid-cooled charging station, as well as a megawatt extreme charging station equipped with 10 1.2 megawatt liquid-cooled charging piles. This charging station is expected to debut at the Shanghai Auto Show in April.
Industry insiders believe that the technological innovations and market strategies of companies like BYD, Huawei, and Zeekr are providing new solutions for fast charging of electric vehicles. As technology matures and the market expands, megawatt fast-charging technology is poised to become the mainstream method for electric vehicle charging, further advancing the new energy vehicle sector.
The "megawatt supercharging" technology may mark the beginning of a "flash charging" era in the new energy vehicle industry by 2025, with expectations of rapid expansion over the next few years. In the electric vehicle sector, particularly in the heavy commercial vehicle segment, megawatt supercharging technology has become a key driver for the electrification of long-distance transportation. Market analysis indicates that the global megawatt supercharging market is projected to reach approximately $64.06 million in 2024, with expectations to climb to $1.5 billion by 2030, reflecting a remarkable compound annual growth rate of 80.91%.
In the A-share market, analysis of investor interaction platforms, announcements, and public data shows that multiple listed companies are collaborating with Huawei on supercharging stations. Igore has supplied high-frequency transformer products to Huawei, primarily for charging stations. Jingquan provides magnetic components for Huawei's supercharging systems. Yonggui Electric's high-power liquid-cooled DC charging guns have entered the supply chain of both BYD and Huawei. Baoxin Technology has partnered with Huawei to operate liquid-cooled fast charging station demonstration projects in Nanjing and Shanghai. Aerospace Electric primarily supplies liquid cooling and power connectors to Huawei. Inke Ray acts as a supplier of liquid cooling charging modules, while Lihexing is a contract manufacturer for Huawei's supercharging products.
According to statistics from Securities Times Data Treasure, among over 50 A-share charging station concept stocks, nearly 40 have released performance data for 2024 (including annual reports, interim reports, and forecasts). Based on upper limit forecasts, around 20 companies are expected to report year-on-year performance improvements, with two companies projected to double their earnings.
Zhiheng Electric anticipates a net profit attributable to shareholders of between ¥100 million and ¥125 million for 2024, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 154.05% to 217.57%. The company is one of the earliest in China to engage in the research and production of electric vehicle charging stations and is among the mainstream manufacturers of charging station equipment.
Kelike has released its annual report, projecting a net profit attributable to shareholders of ¥230 million for 2024, marking a year-on-year increase of 102.02%. The annual report highlights that the company's newly developed 60kW liquid-cooled module magnets have received customer approval in the charging station application sector.
Other companies such as Terui De and Guodian Nanzi are also experiencing performance growth exceeding 50%. Terui De expects a net profit attributable to shareholders in the range of ¥835 million to ¥933 million for 2024, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 70% to 90%. As of the end of 2024, the company will operate more than 700,000 public charging terminals.
