Huaneng Group and Gansu Province Leaders Discuss Shago Desert Base and Virtual Power Plants

On May 7th, Wen Shugang, the Chairman and Party Secretary of China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd., met with Hu Changsheng, Secretary of the Gansu Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People’s Congress, along with Ren Zhenhe, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Governor of Gansu, in Lanzhou. The meeting was also attended by Hao Jinyu, Deputy General Manager and Party Member of the Group, and other Gansu leaders including Zhang Wei, Lei Siwei, and Zhang Weiwen.

Hu Changsheng expressed gratitude for the longstanding support that China Huaneng has provided for Gansu’s development. He briefly outlined the province’s economic and social progress over the past year. He noted that Gansu is currently implementing the important speeches and instructions from General Secretary Xi Jinping regarding economic and social development during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. The province is actively pursuing the “Four Strengths” initiative, which involves enhancing the business environment and striving to develop new productive forces tailored to local conditions. This includes accelerating high-quality economic and social development and creating a strategic partnership with China Huaneng.

Wen Shugang thanked the Gansu Provincial Party Committee and Government for their ongoing support of China Huaneng’s operations in the region. He provided a brief overview of the company’s situation. He emphasized that as a significant state-owned energy enterprise, China Huaneng is committed to implementing the vital directives from General Secretary Xi Jinping and the decisions made by the central government. The company aims to focus on three main principles while actively contributing to national development.

Wen stated that Gansu is viewed as a strategic, developmental, and investment priority for China Huaneng. The company is currently pushing forward the implementation of a strategic cooperation agreement with Gansu, with the goal of establishing a benchmark for the development and operation of the “Shago Desert” base. He expressed hope that both parties would deepen their cooperation, exploring new partnership models such as resource conversion and virtual power plants, to foster a prosperous future for Gansu.
