Honduras Energy Investment Forum Held in Beijing to Boost Renewable Cooperation

The Honduras Energy Investment Forum was held in Beijing on May 12, 2025, organized by the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO) in collaboration with the Honduran Ministry of Energy, the Honduran Ministry of Finance, and the Honduran Embassy in China. This event attracted representatives from over 20 Chinese enterprises and institutions in the fields of energy, electricity, equipment, engineering, and finance.

During the forum, GEIDCO signed a memorandum of understanding with the Honduran Ministry of Energy to enhance cooperation in areas such as renewable energy technology innovation, energy storage, and electric transportation, thereby contributing to the energy development and transformation of Honduras.

In his address, Xin Baoan, Chairman of GEIDCO and President of the China Electricity Council, highlighted the rich clean energy resources in Latin America and the solid foundation for regional energy cooperation. He emphasized that GEIDCO aims to strengthen collaboration with Honduras in joint research, project cooperation, and capacity building to foster green development in the country.

Qiu Xiaoqi, the Chinese government’s special representative for Latin American affairs, noted that this forum is a significant event in the context of the fourth Ministerial Meeting of the China-Latin America Forum, playing a vital role in promoting energy exchange and cooperation between China and Honduras. He mentioned that the construction of energy interconnections is a key area in the Belt and Road Initiative, presenting substantial opportunities for mutually beneficial energy cooperation between China and Honduras, as well as with Latin America.

Honduran Energy Minister Erick Tejada expressed the importance of cooperation with China, stating that Honduras has participated in the Belt and Road Initiative and has benefited from it. He pointed out that China possesses advanced technology and talented professionals in the energy sector, and the signing of the cooperation memorandum will assist in the utilization and development of renewable energy in Honduras.

Furthermore, Honduran Finance Minister Christian Duarte sincerely invited the Chinese government and enterprises to actively participate in the bidding and construction of the country’s national electricity infrastructure projects.

GEIDCO, established as the first international energy organization initiated by China, is committed to creating a mutually beneficial international energy cooperation platform and promoting global energy transformation and sustainable development, currently comprising 1,390 members across 143 countries.
