Thanks to advancements in recycling technology, over 90% of a panel’s materials can be reclaimed and repurposed.
America is also making strides in solar manufacturing. In 2024, more than 20 solar component manufacturing facilities were established in the U.S., marking the most significant expansion of solar module manufacturing in the country’s history. Currently, U.S. solar module production is on track to meet domestic demand by next year. However, these manufacturing facilities still depend on an international supply chain for certain specialty inputs.
Despite this growth, demand for U.S.-made panels is exceeding supply, leading to panels being sold out years in advance. To address this shortfall, imports are necessary. Closing this gap will require ongoing investment and swift policy action to scale production to meet the surging demand.
To sustain this momentum, it is essential to maintain consistent, long-term policies. Sudden changes in trade or tax regulations can disrupt progress and hinder the clean energy projects that both Americans and businesses rely on for energy security and reliability.
