
On April 16, a promotional event for the application of new energy and innovative energy storage industries was held in Huangpu District, Guangzhou. This event aims to implement Guangzhou’s “12218” modernization industrial system, focusing on promoting high-quality development in the new energy and innovative energy storage industries. It serves as a bridge connecting advanced manufacturing with application scenarios, paving the way for the construction of new energy storage projects.
During the event, the Guangzhou Development and Reform Commission presented an overview of the development status of the new energy and innovative energy storage industries in the city, along with the progress of the “Recommended Layout List for New Energy Storage Station Projects in Guangzhou.” This list, jointly issued by the Guangzhou Development and Reform Commission and the Guangzhou Power Supply Bureau, recommends 37 potential sites for new energy storage stations. The aim is to maximize the frequency regulation and peak shaving capabilities of these stations, enhancing their overall benefits in conjunction with the power grid.
Once all 37 new energy storage stations are completed, the city’s capacity for new energy storage will increase from 260,000 kW/520,000 kWh in 2024 to 4.5 million kW/9 million kWh, significantly bolstering the power supply for economic and social development. The publication of the list is expected to facilitate investment in new energy storage projects. Currently, several companies are swiftly turning the recommended sites into project ideas. A total of 22 projects in Guangzhou have been included in the Guangdong Province’s new energy storage station plan for 2025, with an overall construction capacity reaching 3.5 million kW, presenting ample business opportunities and orders for local new energy storage product manufacturers. This is projected to drive fixed asset investments exceeding 11 billion yuan, with 11 projects funded by private enterprises amounting to around 8.4 billion yuan.
During the event, Guangzhou Hengyun Enterprise Group Co., Ltd. and Huachi Dynamic (Beijing) Technology Co., Ltd. signed a strategic cooperation agreement. Under this agreement, both parties will collaborate on the demonstration application of flywheel energy storage and research on hybrid storage technology combining flywheel and lithium batteries, as well as innovative energy storage technologies. They will also actively explore prospective research and application projects in energy storage technology.
Huachi Dynamic (Beijing) Technology Co., Ltd., an outstanding representative in the flywheel energy storage field, established Huachi Dynamic (Guangdong) Technology Co., Ltd. on April 7, 2025, in Huangpu District. This establishment fills the gap in flywheel energy storage technology products in Guangdong, enhancing the overall competitiveness of the new energy storage industry.
The installation of the flywheel energy storage equipment at the “Hengyun Guangzhou Zhongxin Knowledge City Energy Storage Station” project marks the first application of the hybrid “flywheel + lithium battery” energy storage technology in Guangdong Province. This technology is known for its efficiency, environmental friendliness, and long lifespan, making it particularly suitable for applications in peak shaving for the power grid, renewable energy integration, and industrial sectors. The Hengyun Guangzhou Zhongxin Knowledge City Energy Storage Station effectively showcases the advanced and practical nature of flywheel energy storage technology, signifying a significant step forward for Guangdong Province in the new energy storage sector.
Looking ahead, the Guangzhou Development and Reform Commission will leverage the mechanisms of the city’s working group dedicated to promoting high-quality development in the new energy and innovative energy storage industries. They plan to continue hosting various themed promotional events for new energy and innovative energy storage applications, guiding districts in the development of these industries and fostering a more comprehensive, diverse, and competitive ecosystem for the industry chain. This effort aims to enrich the application scenarios of new energy and innovative energy storage, facilitating a comprehensive green transformation of Guangzhou’s economic and social development.
