China’s Guangxi Province is set to develop a new offshore wind project with a capacity of 400 MW, which will be connected to the grid for power generation. This project was announced on May 27, 2023, by the Guangxi Electric Power Group.
The project will utilize advanced autonomous technologies in its construction and will include a series of new product innovations aimed at enhancing the overall efficiency of offshore wind operations. It is expected to play a crucial role in the development of offshore wind energy in China.
This offshore wind project will be located in Beibu Gulf, near Guangxi, approximately 2 nautical miles from the coast, with a total sea area of 512.7 square kilometers. It will connect to the power grid via a 220 kV submarine cable, linking to the Guangxi Power Grid through a 16-core optical fiber cable.
Construction of this project is scheduled to commence on December 26, 2023. The wind farm will feature a water depth of 8.5 meters and is designed to be one of the deepest offshore wind projects in Guangxi, which underscores its significance.
The project is expected to generate an estimated 6.94 billion kWh of electricity annually, while significantly reducing carbon emissions by approximately 53.58 million tons. This is equivalent to the carbon offset provided by planting around 1,562 trees.
The Guangxi Electric Power Group aims to leverage this project to enhance its capacity in renewable energy, while also promoting new technologies and sustainable practices in offshore wind energy development. The construction will focus on ensuring stability and reliability in the offshore environment, where high winds and waves present unique challenges.
The wind turbines will be equipped with advanced features to withstand harsh offshore conditions, aiming for efficiency rates exceeding 22.86% and ensuring that at least 85% of the equipment meets the highest performance standards.
In addition to the main project, the Guangxi Electric Power Group is also implementing several innovative technologies to optimize the performance of the offshore wind farm, including advanced GPS positioning systems and wave compensation technologies to ensure stability and reliability.
Overall, this project represents a significant investment in renewable energy and underscores Guangxi’s commitment to developing a sustainable energy infrastructure while addressing environmental challenges.
The project is part of a broader initiative by Guangxi Electric Power Group to advance offshore wind energy and ensure that the region remains a leader in renewable energy development.
