On April 28, 2025, the largest landfill solar power project in the country and the first of its kind in Guangdong Province, located at the Baonan Tiger Pit landfill, successfully achieved full-capacity grid connection. The project is funded and constructed by the Bay Area New Energy Company, a subsidiary of Shenzhen Energy Group. Utilizing approximately 146,000 square meters of landfill resources, the solar power system has an installed capacity of 13 MW and is expected to generate around 14 million kilowatt-hours annually.
In accordance with the latest national policies on distributed solar power generation, the project aimed to achieve grid connection by April 30. Despite challenges such as tight deadlines, rainy season construction, and overlapping work areas, the construction team effectively coordinated efforts. During peak construction periods, around 200 workers were engaged, and the team actively liaised with power supply departments, equipment suppliers, and construction partners. As a result, they completed the grid connection 48 hours ahead of schedule.
This project innovatively combines the “solar power + landfill” model, transforming an inactive landfill into a clean energy site. This not only revitalizes unused land resources but also achieves dual benefits of ecological restoration and energy production. The solar array collaborates with the Baonan Environmental Park’s eco-power plant, sewage treatment plant, and ecological greenways to create an integrated garden-style environmental demonstration system, providing a replicable model for reusing landfill sites.
