Grab has announced plans to launch an automated robot named “Carri” to bridge the gap between digital intelligence and real-world logistics. This initiative is part of their ongoing efforts to enhance their delivery services.
During the annual product event GrabX 2026, co-founder and CEO Anthony Tan emphasized that the Carri robot is not intended to replace delivery drivers, but rather to serve as a “super extension” of their workforce. He explained that drivers often lose approximately 10% of their revenue time while searching for restaurants in large shopping malls or waiting for customers in big office buildings. By assisting in locating restaurants and handing off orders to drivers, the Carri robot could enable Grab drivers to engage with their next orders more quickly.
In addition to the robot, Tan highlighted Grab’s plan to integrate smart technology into physical hardware, aiming to develop autonomous vehicles and CCTV systems. This initiative aligns with Grab’s brand philosophy of prioritizing artificial intelligence (AI) and ensuring that technology benefits everyone, including underserved communities across Southeast Asia. “We are bringing intelligence from the cloud to the streets, creating more possibilities by deploying technology in physical hardware to solve challenges for our partners,” he stated.
Last year at GrabX, the company introduced an AI assistant for merchants called “MAI” and expanded its AI initiatives with a driver AI assistant named “Coach”. Tan also mentioned that Grab has partnered with AI company OpenAI for the Coach project, which has already seen over 500,000 drivers utilizing the feature, with plans for further expansion.
