Göpel Electronic Unveils Innovative Modular Battery Test Bench with High Flexibility and Efficiency

Göpel Electronic has introduced an innovative and highly configurable battery test bench that boasts a modular design and exceptional flexibility. This system includes a central measurement technology unit equipped with a computer and monitor, a control cabinet, and a modular unit housing all necessary power electronics.

The battery test bench is capable of delivering power levels of up to 500 kW and can conduct tests within a voltage range of up to 1,000 V DC, with test currents reaching as high as 800 A DC. Additionally, insulation tests can be performed with voltages up to 7.5 kV. The range of services provided encompasses both safety and functional tests, designed to assess the condition of battery cells, measure the impedance under alternating current, analyze the alternating current dynamics of the cell, and identify critical defects.

Test results yield valuable insights into the electrochemical processes within the cell, aging effects, and fluctuations in internal resistance across various frequencies. During the functional test, the electronic testing system communicates with the battery management system (BMS) via CANbus. The battery undergoes a defined charging pulse, followed by discharge, after which the state of charge is verified. Notably, the energy used during discharge is returned to the power grid, enhancing energy efficiency and resulting in cost savings.

Upon completion of the safety and functional tests, all results are automatically exported to a production department database in customizable reports. Before the system is delivered, it checks the quiescent current to prevent any unnecessary drain on the battery. Additionally, it ensures the desired state of charge, retrieves final sensor data, compares error memory entries, and installs the end customer software onto the battery.

In a related development, Göpel Electronic has also launched the Caroline series of acoustic testing systems aimed at enhancing quality assurance through noise and vibration analysis during production.
