Global Media Focus: Foreign Media Highlights China’s Strong and High-Quality Electric Vehicle Exports

As one of the “new three items” of China’s foreign trade, Chinese electric vehicles are evolving rapidly, shifting from mere product exports to actively exporting technology standards and supply chain systems. The robust and high-quality export of Chinese electric vehicles is reshaping the traditional global automotive industry landscape, garnering significant attention from various foreign media outlets.

According to a report by Bloomberg, data released by research agency Dataforce reveals that in August this year, the share of Chinese cars in Europe’s hybrid vehicle sales reached a record high of 9.8%. The report on October 2 noted that this signifies the continuous advancement of Chinese car manufacturers in the increasingly important hybrid vehicle sector for both consumers and manufacturers. This marks the fourth time this year that Chinese brands have set a new record for hybrid model share in Europe. Chinese manufacturers are targeting the growing electric vehicle market in Europe, where their cost-effective models are putting pressure on local traditional carmakers like Volkswagen Group.

The Financial Times recently reported on the rapid development of Chinese electric vehicles in the Southeast Asian market. The article highlights that the surge in sales of affordable Chinese electric vehicles has broken the decades-long monopoly of Japanese auto manufacturers in this region. According to data analysis from PwC, the share of Japanese automakers such as Toyota, Honda, and Nissan in the automotive sales of six major Southeast Asian markets has dropped from an average of 77% in the 2010s to 62% in the first half of 2025, while China’s share has risen from negligible levels to over 5%.

The article further notes that regional free trade agreements grant Chinese electric vehicles tariff-free market access, prompting Chinese car companies to focus on nearby export markets. Additionally, they aim to leverage their leading position in automotive software technology overseas.

The German financial media outlet Handelsblatt published an article on October 2, stating that China’s electric vehicle manufacturing technology has become world-class. The article cites Eiichi Mochizuki, director of the Next Generation Automotive Center in Hamamatsu, Japan, who pointed out that relatively young Chinese electric vehicle companies are leading in production technology, suggesting that “China’s production technology should be regarded as a benchmark.” Mochizuki also mentioned that another advantage of Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers is that their components are smaller and lighter, making their products more portable while achieving performance levels comparable to those of high-end German brands.
