Global Energy Company Expands in Victoria
——————————————-

The Victorian Premier and the Allan Labor Government are supporting business growth in the region as a world-leading energy storage company plans to expand its Australian headquarters in Melbourne. This expansion by Fluence, a global leader in grid-scale battery energy storage systems, is expected to create up to 100 highly skilled jobs while enhancing Victoria’s renewable energy capabilities.

Minister for Economic Growth and Jobs, Danny Pearson, announced that Fluence’s expansion will accelerate the development of the local battery storage technology industry. This move is set to bolster skilled local employment and strengthen supply chains, all while supporting the state’s ambitious renewable energy targets.

Founded in 2018 and headquartered in the United States, Fluence Energy is recognized for its innovative technologies that are vital for powering a clean energy future. Australia ranks as Fluence’s second-largest market outside the US, and the company is involved in several significant energy projects across Victoria, including initiatives in the Latrobe Valley.

The decision to expand in Victoria reinforces the state’s reputation as an attractive destination for renewable energy and clean technology investments. This follows the recent establishment of the APAC headquarters by Italian energy storage company Energy Dome in Melbourne, also supported by the Labor Government.

The Labor Government is committed to investing in renewable technologies to achieve a target of 95 percent renewable energy by 2035, with projections indicating that Victoria’s energy workforce could exceed 67,000 workers by 2040. By encouraging global leaders to invest in Victoria, the government aims to unlock economic growth opportunities, create jobs, and foster innovation—core principles of the Labor Government’s Economic Growth Statement.

As Minister Danny Pearson stated, “Victoria is the ideal location for innovative companies like Fluence to invest and grow.” He emphasized that supporting global leaders in expanding their operations in Victoria is crucial for transitioning to renewable energy while simultaneously boosting economic growth and local industries.

Minister for Energy and Resources, Lily D’Ambrosio, expressed pride in leading the nation in renewable energy and battery storage, emphasizing the importance of these technologies for storing affordable renewable energy when needed. She highlighted Fluence’s expansion in Melbourne as a significant endorsement of the state’s energy transition, contributing to job creation and reduced energy costs.

Jason Beer, Fluence Australia’s General Manager, noted that large-scale battery storage systems are essential for creating a more resilient grid and maximizing the potential of renewable energy portfolios in Australia. Fluence appreciates the Victorian Government’s ongoing commitment to renewable energy solutions and its growth in Australia.
