German Solar Executive Highlights PV Industry as a Model for China-Europe Cooperation

German

Marcus Elsässer, the founder and CEO of the German Solar Promotion Company, stated that China is not only the world’s largest photovoltaic application market but also continuously provides high-quality products for Europe’s energy transition. The deep integration of the photovoltaic industry between China and Europe serves as a model for cooperation between the two regions.

The recent 2025 European International Solar Exhibition, held in Munich, Germany, attracted more than 2,700 companies from over 50 countries and regions, with approximately 850 of these companies coming from China. The exhibited products ranged from high-efficiency photovoltaic modules and energy storage devices to charging infrastructure and comprehensive energy solutions.

During the exhibition, Elsässer highlighted that the event annually hosts an innovation award, with 18 Chinese companies reaching the finals this year, which he found impressive. He noted that many products from China showcase remarkable innovations across various fields.

The European Solar Industry Association released a report during the exhibition titled “Global Solar Market Outlook 2025-2029,” indicating that in 2024, approximately half of the new photovoltaic installation capacity globally will come from China. Elsässer cited this data as a positive signal, demonstrating that China is firmly advancing its energy structure transformation and moving towards clean energy.

Elsässer emphasized, “China is not only the largest photovoltaic application market globally but also plays a crucial role in Europe’s energy transition.” He mentioned that the Chinese photovoltaic industry leads in capacity layout and technological innovation. Europe currently shows strong momentum in renewable energy development, with Chinese companies supplying a significant amount of key low-carbon products and competitive solutions.

He believes that cooperation between China and Europe in the field of new energy goes beyond just the supply chain. In recent years, several Chinese companies have established factories or joint ventures in Germany and Hungary, which have been well received by local communities. This not only deepens bilateral cooperation but also creates more job opportunities in those areas.

Furthermore, he noted that an increasing number of Chinese photovoltaic and energy storage companies are forming close partnerships with European distributors and service providers. As Chinese manufacturers participate in the construction of various battery parks and large-scale energy storage stations in Europe, local partners help these companies better adapt to European market regulations and grid standards. Additionally, by establishing localized after-sales and operational service systems, the reliability and competitiveness of their products are further enhanced.

Elsässer pointed out that the synergy effects in the new energy industry chain between China and Europe offer great potential for promoting more cost-effective and scalable clean energy solutions. “Europe has extensive experience in regulatory policies, project development, and system integration, while China demonstrates significant advantages in research and development speed, industry scale, and manufacturing capabilities,” he added.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Europe. Elsässer stated that their cooperation in the photovoltaic sector is exemplary, and he firmly believes that this collaboration will continue and deepen over time.
