First Global White Paper on BC Technology Development Released, Paving the Way for Industry Advancement

First

On April 27, the China Electricity Council, TÜV Rheinland Group of Germany, the Jianheng Certification Center, Aiko Solar, and Longi Green Energy jointly released the “Back Contact (BC) Battery Technology Development White Paper” in Beijing. This document serves as the world’s first authoritative report on BC technology aimed at the photovoltaic industry and the general public. The white paper systematically explains the industrialization path, core advantages, and sustainable development potential of BC technology, marking the official transition of this “ultimate form of single-junction silicon solar cells” into a new phase of large-scale application.

In addition to the white paper’s release, Longi recently signed a cooperation agreement in Madrid, Spain, to supply over 100 MW of BC second-generation components, known as Hi-MO 9, for a ground-mounted power station project in Latin America. This advanced BC technology and product are expected to significantly accelerate energy transformation in the region, providing a robust solution to climate challenges.

In the Ningxia region, plans are underway to install more than 32.5 million kilowatts of photovoltaic capacity by 2025. A conference on collaborative development of the new energy industry chain in Ningxia took place on April 18, showcasing the rapid growth driven by policy support and resource enhancement.

Longi Green Energy also achieved a remarkable milestone by receiving the AAA rating from PV-Tech for the 21st consecutive time, reflecting its excellence in technological innovation, product value, and operational capabilities. This rating underscores the confidence that authoritative institutions have in Longi’s strength and growth potential.

On April 11, Longi announced the mass production of its upgraded Hi-MO 9 components at a spring launch event in Wuhu, Anhui. This new product, based on BC 2.0 technology, embodies Longi’s strategy of innovation, mass production, and ecosystem development, propelling the photovoltaic industry toward an era characterized by high efficiency, reliability, and returns.

Furthermore, Longi recently set a new world record for solar cell efficiency, achieving a conversion rate of 27.81% for its HIBC (Hybrid Interdigitated Back Contact) cells, as certified by the Institute for Solar Energy Research in Hamelin, Germany. This achievement builds upon Longi’s prior record of 26.81% established in November 2022.

To promote the development of the BC technology ecosystem, Longi launched the “Global Optimal Design Competition for BC Power Stations” on April 11, offering a total prize pool of 2 million yuan. The competition invites design firms, consulting companies, EPC contractors, and renewable energy investment firms worldwide to submit outstanding designs for BC power stations exceeding 50 MW.

Additionally, Longi signed a supply agreement for a 226 MW BC power station project in Greece, marking the largest such project in Europe to date. This collaboration emphasizes the significant value and leading position of the Hi-MO 9 components in the global market and will help accelerate the transition to a cleaner energy structure in Europe.

In conjunction with these advancements, the first integrated demonstration station for solar storage, hydrogen exchange, and inspection in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, has been officially put into operation. This facility combines multiple functions, including photovoltaic power generation, energy storage, charging, maintenance, and washing, built to top-tier standards.

As the photovoltaic industry continues to evolve, key players are making strides in both technology and market presence, further enhancing the potential for renewable energy solutions worldwide.
