Guosheng Company has recently launched the first domestic 5G intelligent photovoltaic cleaning robot at the Hami Coal Power Company’s Huayuan Power Plant. This initiative aligns with the spirit of the 2025 National Two Sessions and aims to cultivate new productive forces, establishing a model for the application of 5G and industrial Internet technologies in the photovoltaic maintenance and operation industry.
The project utilizes the 17.9 MW distributed photovoltaic components of the Huayuan Power Plant, specifically designed for the climatic characteristics of China’s Northwest region, which includes high summer temperatures, low winter temperatures, minimal rain and snow, frequent sandstorms, and abundant sunlight throughout the year. The cleaning device is equipped with a self-powered system that operates without external power supplies or dragged cables, making it suitable for extreme conditions.
Furthermore, a photovoltaic cleaning and maintenance management platform has been developed based on data modeling and digital twin technologies. This platform integrates operation monitoring, equipment early warning, power generation prediction, and maintenance control into an intelligent cockpit application for photovoltaic power stations.
The robot is outfitted with a weather-responsive system that includes rain and snow detection as well as wind speed monitoring. The data is transmitted via a dedicated 5G network to a front-end server, where operational strategies are computed and control commands are issued. This allows for optimal intelligent maintenance strategies to be implemented in response to changing weather conditions.
The project is scheduled for trial operation at the end of December 2024, enabling all-weather, multi-frequency cleaning of photovoltaic components without the need for external water or power sources. The robot demonstrates strong adaptability to extreme weather and offers low-cost maintenance capabilities. During the trial period, under the same lighting conditions, photovoltaic power generation efficiency increased by 5% to 10%.
The project has received one patent and one software copyright, along with the publication of a paper in a core journal. It provides new insights for the intelligent cleaning and maintenance of photovoltaic power stations in China’s arid desert, Gobi, and unplanted loess regions, holding significant demonstration and promotion value.
