On April 16, 2025, the first list of companies that passed the evaluation of the mandatory national standard for lithium batteries used in energy storage, GB 44240—2024, was officially released. This announcement was made by the Zhongguancun Energy Storage Industry Technology Alliance and the China Electronics Standardization Institute (CESI) through an online platform.
As the global energy transition accelerates, the energy storage industry is experiencing unprecedented development opportunities. However, frequent safety incidents at energy storage power stations pose significant challenges to the industry. To ensure the safe, healthy, and sustainable development of the energy storage sector, the National Standardization Administration issued a mandatory national standard revision plan on December 28, 2021 (Document No. [2021] 37), with the plan code (20214450-Q-339).
This plan led to the establishment of China’s first mandatory national safety standard for lithium batteries used in energy storage systems, titled “Safety Requirements for Lithium Storage Batteries and Battery Packs for Energy Storage Systems” (GB 44240—2024). The standard was drafted by CESI, under the guidance of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and was officially released on July 24, 2024. It is set to be implemented starting August 1, 2025.
To assist related enterprises in understanding the specific requirements of this standard in advance, the CESI’s SaiXi Laboratory, which operates under the “Key Laboratory for Green Battery Evaluation and Analysis” and the “National Green Battery Quality Inspection Center,” is conducting tests based on the mandatory national standard GB 44240—2024.
The first batch of companies and their products that successfully passed the GB 44240—2024 evaluation is as follows:
- Ningde Times New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (2 products)
- Anhui Leiwei Energy Battery Co., Ltd.
- Hunan Desay Battery Co., Ltd. (3 products)
- Zhongxin Innovation Technology Group Co., Ltd. (2 products)
- Jiangsu Zhongxing Penergy Battery Co., Ltd. (2 products)
- Jiangxi Ganfeng Lithium Technology Co., Ltd. (2 products)
- Zhejiang Nandu Power Supply Co., Ltd.
- Envision Energy Technology (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd.
- Guangzhou Penghui Energy Technology Co., Ltd.
- Aerospace Lithium Battery (Luoyang) Co., Ltd.
- Chuneng New Energy Co., Ltd.
- Camel Group Xiangyang Battery Co., Ltd.
- Xiamen Haicheng Energy Technology Co., Ltd.
- Ruipu Lanjun Energy Co., Ltd.
- Qingdao Lishen New Energy Technology Co., Ltd.
Note: The above list is not ranked in any particular order.
This development is significant for the energy storage industry, which is increasingly focused on safety and quality standards. The introduction of GB 44240—2024 represents a crucial step in promoting the safe use of lithium batteries in energy storage applications.
