The 15th China International Battery Industry Expo (IBIE2025) Opens in Shenzhen

The 15th China International Battery Industry Expo (IBIE2025) commenced at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center on October 10, 2025. Organized by the China Battery Industry Association, this expo aims to showcase the innovative achievements across the entire battery industry chain, with a strong focus on emerging application scenarios to promote global industry collaboration.

Covering an area of 15,000 square meters, the exhibition attracted over 100 companies from various sectors, including lithium batteries, lead-acid batteries, primary batteries, and other new types of batteries such as aqueous batteries, solid-state batteries, sodium-ion batteries, and nickel-hydrogen batteries. Exhibitors also included companies involved in battery materials, power systems, smart manufacturing equipment, new energy storage, and battery applications.

Opening Ceremony and Keynote Addresses

The ribbon-cutting ceremony began at 10:00 AM on the opening day, hosted by Ma Dejun, Vice President of the China Battery Industry Association. In his opening speech, Liu Baosheng, President of the association, reflected on the expo’s growth since its inception in 1997. He noted that since 1995, the association has been building a communication platform for the industry, successfully organizing national battery trade conferences for two consecutive years, which received positive responses from companies. To meet industry needs, the China International Battery Showcase and Trade Fair was established, leading to fourteen previous expos.

Liu reaffirmed the original guiding principles of the exhibition: “Enhancing friendship, strengthening communication, promoting trade, and developing cooperation,” which encapsulate the association’s mission and goals. Today, the Chinese battery industry has reached a new stage of development, becoming a crucial hub for technology, industry, and innovative applications worldwide. The association aims to continue this nearly thirty-year legacy by providing a comprehensive platform to showcase the strengths of “Made in China” and “Created in China,” guiding the global battery industry’s growth.

Distinguished Guests and Industry Leaders

Among the participants were Liu Baosheng, Wang Xiaofeng (President of the China Inorganic Salt Industry Association), Wang Junli (Vice President of the China Shipbuilding Engineering Society), and various leaders from prominent companies, including Liu Changlei (Chairman of Camel Group), Wang Wei (Chairman of Xinwangda Electronics), and Zhang Hongbo (Director of Standards and Regulations at CATL). They collectively inaugurated the IBIE2025 expo.

Following the opening ceremony, guests toured the exhibition area, with a focus on the digital battery passport display zone, showcasing the latest applications of digital battery passports in various new energy vehicles including those from Ideal, Seres, and BYD. They also visited booths from leading companies like CATL, Camel Energy, Xinwangda, and others, praising the advanced technologies in battery manufacturing.

Main Forum of the 2025 China International Battery Application Conference

On the afternoon of October 10, the main forum of the “2025 China International Battery Application Conference,” a core part of the expo, was held, hosted by Wang Jianxin, Vice President and Executive Secretary General of the China Battery Industry Association. President Liu Baosheng emphasized that batteries have become the “lifeblood” driving the green and low-carbon transformation across various sectors. He called for a focus on innovation to adapt to the evolving demands of emerging applications in energy storage, electric shipping, low-altitude aerial vehicles, and smart elderly care robots, aiming to create a healthy industrial ecosystem.

Wang Junli highlighted the vast potential of the electric ship market, noting that batteries bring not only intelligence and sustainability but also efficiency and safety to shipping. He expressed hope for cross-industry innovation between shipping and battery technologies to empower the green development of the maritime industry.

Expert Insights and Future Directions

Academician Chen Qingquan delivered a keynote speech titled “Artificial Intelligence Empowerment, Energy Revolution, and the New Journey of the Automotive Revolution.” He discussed the importance of scientific iteration and proposed replacing the “old three highs” (high investment, high consumption, high emissions) with the “new three highs” (high technology, high efficiency, high quality). He emphasized the role of science and engineering as key drivers of cultural and historical development.

Chen introduced his work on artificial intelligence at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and its application in accelerating the innovation of new materials, particularly new battery materials. He addressed the challenges posed by the energy revolution in the context of carbon neutrality and highlighted the critical role of batteries in establishing a power system centered on new energy.

Academician Chen Zhongwei from the Royal Society of Canada provided insights on the advancements in next-generation battery materials and technologies. He detailed developments in high-safety, long-life semi-solid and solid-state batteries, focusing on composite solid electrolytes with superior performance across various parameters.

Continued Engagement and Future Activities

The conference will continue until October 12, featuring 12 thematic sub-forums that will delve into cutting-edge topics such as new energy storage, electric ships, electric low-altitude flying vehicles, battery safety and standards, and international cooperation.
