Sunshine Power PhD Talk: Deepening Scenarios and Empowering Intelligence to Explore Better Solutions for Commercial and Industrial Energy Storage
On April 11, during the ESIE 2025 13th International Energy Storage Summit and Exhibition, Sunshine Power hosted a PhD Talk themed “Deepening Scenarios x Empowering Intelligence: Exploring Better Solutions for Commercial and Industrial Energy Storage.” The event featured Dr. Nan Nan Kou, an energy transition expert from Bloomberg New Energy Finance, as the moderator. It brought together Dr. Wei Cao, General Manager of Sunshine Power’s Commercial and Industrial Energy Storage Product Line, Dr. Jing Song, a research expert from the World Resources Institute’s Sustainable Transformation Center, and Dr. Wenwen Zhou, General Manager of Sunshine Carbon, along with media and industry representatives. Discussions focused on key topics such as policy changes, technological innovations, practices in zero-carbon parks, and overcoming industry challenges, all aimed at finding optimal solutions for the development of commercial and industrial energy storage amidst the wave of marketization in new energy.
The energy storage industry is transitioning from a period of policy benefits to one of value cultivation. It is essential to leverage technological innovation as a spear and scenario-based product solutions as a shield, focusing on customer value and leading green transformation and industry change.
Policy and Technology Drive: Reshaping the Industry Landscape
2025 is a pivotal year for the transformation of the new energy industry, characterized by deepening policy reforms, iterations of energy storage technologies and products, and accelerating integration of AI with energy systems, all reshaping the global energy landscape. In this context, commercial and industrial energy storage is deeply embedded in zero-carbon parks, gradually becoming a new engine for green development. Dr. Wei Cao pointed out that the reform of the electricity market and new energy storage policies are pushing commercial and industrial energy storage to evolve from being merely a “backup power source” to a “value-creating entity.” The improvement of time-of-use electricity pricing mechanisms and ancillary service markets will accelerate the diversification of user-side storage revenues. Furthermore, the integration of AI is driving the industry’s shift from an “experience-driven” to an “intelligence-driven” paradigm.
As a leading global provider of energy storage system solutions, Sunshine Power believes that AI technology will reshape the value of energy storage products through three dimensions: precise energy management, real-time dispatch decision-making, and optimization of electricity trading strategies, thereby creating a trillion-dollar market space.
Dr. Jing Song shared insights from overseas zero-carbon park practices, emphasizing that the core lies in the synergy of “distributed energy + digital management.” She highlighted that zero-carbon parks are not only crucial carriers for global carbon neutrality but also key levers for enhancing regional energy resilience and industrial competitiveness. Dr. Wenwen Zhou added that domestic zero-carbon parks are transitioning from pilot projects to large-scale implementations, with “source-grid-load-storage” integrated solutions being vital.
Addressing Energy’s “Impossible Triangle” by Focusing on Scenario Needs
Addressing the pain points of commercial and industrial green transformation, Dr. Jing Song noted that companies face not only demands for green transitions but also real challenges such as stable electricity supply, price volatility, and power restrictions. The flexible configuration of energy storage and distributed energy is key to overcoming these challenges. Dr. Wei Cao emphasized that “safety, efficiency, and long-termism” are the three critical factors for the sustainable development of commercial and industrial energy storage. Sunshine Power consistently prioritizes customer value and scenario needs, introducing the “one scene, one solution” concept for commercial and industrial energy storage. For instance, Sunshine Power’s latest 255CS series product solutions feature both “AC coupling” and “DC coupling” modes for photovoltaic-storage integration scenarios. It has also launched the 800CS series specifically for large industrial scenarios and developed integrated “photovoltaic-storage-charging” systems for high-energy-consuming parks. In areas where power restrictions are frequent, they are constructing off-grid backup power solutions centered around energy storage to ensure stable electricity supply. Additionally, they offer a 100 kWh product solution for small and micro-commercial scenarios and a 5000 kWh solution for large user-side scenarios.
During the event, Dr. Wenwen Zhou used the Sunshine Industrial Park as an example to further explain the pathways to resolving the energy “impossible triangle.” With the support of the iCarbon energy-carbon platform, Sunshine Carbon has implemented green low-carbon demonstrations in parks, factories, and hospitals, helping achieve a dynamic balance among “economy, stability, and low-carbonity.” “From a sustainable development perspective, Sunshine Industrial Park has opted for a diversified clean energy supply approach, constructing a renewable energy system that complements photovoltaic, energy storage, and charging piles,” he noted.
Breaking through Value: Pursuing a Zero-Carbon Future with Long-Termism
The core demand for green transformation in commercial and industrial parks lies in “cost reduction, stability enhancement, and carbon reduction.” Energy storage technology must comprehensively upgrade across dimensions such as economic optimization, system reliability enhancements, and multi-energy collaboration. Dr. Wei Cao analyzed the development trends of commercial and industrial energy storage, noting that as distributed photovoltaics participate in electricity trading, user demand for “energy storage + trading services” is surging. Sunshine Power’s commercial storage products offer a full lifecycle service model covering peak-valley arbitrage, demand management, and green electricity consumption across multiple scenarios. “Energy storage companies should focus on value rather than price competition,” he remarked, adding that Sunshine will continue to deeply explore commercial and industrial scenarios, based on demand insights, product innovations, and exceptional service, while strengthening its global presence and building a competitive edge.
Regarding the implementation of zero-carbon parks both domestically and internationally, Dr. Jing Song emphasized the need for clear carbon accounting standards from policy makers and improved green electricity trading mechanisms from the market side. Dr. Wenwen Zhou stressed that the development of zero-carbon parks relies on virtual power plants and energy-carbon synergy, necessitating seamless integration of energy flows, carbon flows, and data flows, while elucidating key technologies and business models on-site. Faced with domestic competitive chaos and international compliance challenges, attendees shared reflections on overcoming industry dilemmas, collectively advocating for healthy competition to drive a sustainable industrial ecosystem.
As a leading global new energy enterprise, Sunshine Power’s core competitiveness in the commercial and industrial energy storage sector stems from its technological innovations, deep scenario engagement, and safety leadership, establishing differentiated barriers through comprehensive self-research and global expansion. Sunshine Power’s commercial and industrial energy storage product solutions are currently applied successfully in over 1,000 projects worldwide, aiding in the low-carbon transformation of commercial and industrial sectors.
